Best Itinerary for Manaslu Circuit Trek 15 Days from Australia

Day 1: Fly from Australia to Kathmandu and Transfer to the hotel, and attend the Pre-Trip Meeting.

Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola.

  • Max. Altitude: 870 m
  • Ride Duration: 9 hours
  • Distance Covered: 140 km
  • Accommodation: Tea House

Once you’re all set and done, the first day of the trip begins as we head towards Machha Khola. This is going to be a 9-hour drive from Kathmandu.

While there are public buses that take you to the destination, Mount Glory has arranged private jeeps to ensure the drive is as comfortable as possible. This way, we get to stop by at different places, and you can peek into different sections of the Kathmandu-Gorkha route.

Note that Gorkha is the same district where Nepalese Gurkhas are from. And we’re pretty sure you’ve heard of them at least once in your life. During your Manaslu circuit trek, you’ll get to witness these brave soldiers’ villages.

Don’t be surprised when you meet locals, and they share incredible stories, which is another bonus point during this trip.

Getting back to the jeep drive, you’ll be passing through different hills, rivers, traditional houses, local farmlands, snow-capped peaks, and overall stunning scenes. Our professional guide will give you all the information you’ll be seeking.

But be prepared, as the drive can be a little tiresome to many, as the roads are pretty bumpy here in Nepal. You’ll be passing through forests, and the nature with fresh air shall touch your skin the moment you get past dusty Kathmandu.

We shall be stopping by local tea houses for lunch and snacks. You’ll get to experience local food, mainly Dal Bhat, as it gives you 24-hour power (you’ve probably heard that metaphor, or at least going to hear it throughout this Nepal trip)!

Trishuli and Budhi Gandhaki are the main highlights of this day, which have great religious importance too. Once you reach Machha Khola, you’ll already be in one of the remote regions in Nepal.

Day 3: Machha Khola to Jagat.

  • Max. Altitude: 1,290 m
  • Hike Duration: 6-7 hours
  • Distance Covered: 22 km
  • Accommodation: Tea House

The actual trek begins this day. You’ll be heading from Maccha Khola to Jagat in what would be 6-7 hours of walking through the forest, crossing multiple bridges.

Your day shall start early with a local Nepali breakfast and your favourite drink–tea or coffee! Make sure you pack all your stuff and communicate well with the guide and porters on what to do next.

Usually, the trek begins at 7 AM. So, we expect our guests to wake up as early as 6 AM so that they can freshen up and have their breakfast as fast as they can. Remember that you won’t be accompanied by personal washrooms from here, so it will be on a sharing basis with the entire tea house crew.

As soon as your hike begins, you’ll be mesmerised by Nepal’s local village lifestyle, and you’ll even be followed by lovely dogs, who are even worshipped during the Tihar festival. If you love these furry friends, they might even be your trek buddies for the next 13 days.

You’ll be passing through the Budhi Gandaki River, and its sound is just the thing you need. It’s going to be as beautiful as you have seen in the Nepal videos, and more importantly, you’ll be experiencing this yourself now!

Not to forget, there are waterfalls along the way, and some of our guests just love to take a quick shower here. The feeling? It’s out of this world!

The hike on this day isn’t that strenuous with a mostly straight path. So, you’ll be enjoying most of the day, and we’ll also be stopping by to taste Dal Bhat yet again. That’s going to be the meal for the rest of your trip, and we’re pretty sure when you return, you’ll miss these.

You’ll even stop by the Budhi Gandaki riverside, where you can enjoy your snacks. One important thing we want to humbly request is not to litter when you’re doing the Manaslu circuit trek.

You’re going to pass through the beautiful villages of Khorlabesi, Tatopani, Dovan, and Thulo Dunga. The final stretch shall take you to Jagat, where you’ll be spending the night.

In this Manaslu circuit trek, you’ll be passing through the Gorkha-Lamjung border and then reach Manang.

Day 4: Jagat to Deng.

  • Max. Altitude: 1,860 m
  • Hike Duration: 5-6 hours
  • Distance Covered: 20 km
  • Accommodation: Tea House

Just like the earlier day, your trek this day begins as early as possible so that you can reach the destination in time. The idea is not to make the walk until late in the evening, as it’s going to be difficult to hike at night.

Note this: you’ll be climbing a rocky ridge, and you’ll feel the adventure has just begun. Unlike the other day, the ascend starts from the very first day. So, make sure you have a hearty breakfast.

While you’re hiking, the stunning view of Sringi Himal (7,187m) is going to be your inspiration. Think of it this way: if you’re already seeing the mountains so close to here, imagine what it would be like to reach the top!

Keeping yourself motivated is very important throughout the Manaslu Circuit Trek. So, make sure you communicate with the other trek members, sharing your stories and listening to theirs. That’s the best part of our lives, right?

You’ll be passing through Sidibas Bazar, then cross a suspension bridge to reach Nagjet. The stop can be anywhere between these regions for lunch. One tip is that you don’t overeat during this period, as we have noticed that many guests find it difficult to walk, and also, the real ascent begins from this very point.

Once you reach Philim, you’ll start seeing the rich fields of maize, potato, and millet. And slowly through the bamboo forest, the guides will lead you to Nipri. The destination is much closer now, as a few more steady steps shall take you to Deng, a beautiful Buddhist village.

For your dinner, you can try their momo—it’s delicious! A skip from the regular Dal Bhat, and it’s much lighter too.

Day 5: Deng to Namrung.

  • Max. Altitude: 2,660 m
  • Hike Duration: 5-6 hours
  • Distance Covered: 19 km
  • Accommodation: Tea House

Many try to aim for Lho on this day, but to ensure proper acclimatisation, Mount Glory Treks recommends you reach Namrung on the fourth day.

Note that the Manaslu Circuit trek is a high-altitude trek, and in case you suffer from altitude sickness, hiking too fast, you just have to return to the lower altitude region. Why do that when you can take the trek slowly and safely while enjoying it fully, right?

The village of Deng is itself big, so you’ll be passing through this village while acknowledging the beauty of the different types of farms present here. After ascending 100 meters, you’ll reach Rana (1,910m).

Also, the higher your ascent, the cleaner the water source of Budhi Gandaki. The valley looks mesmerising as you go uphill–you’ll be soaking yourself in nature this day with the river just by your side.

The highlight of this day is the rhododendron forest. If you’re doing the Manaslu circuit trek during the spring/summer season, you’ll even get to witness the national flower of Nepal. It will be all blooming, covering most part of the forest, which is another sight not to miss.

Just like that, while appreciating how beautiful these Nepali forests and villages are, you’ll have ascended approximately 700 meters to reach the destination—Namrung Village.

Day 6: Namrung to Lho.

  • Max. Altitude: 3,180 m
  • Hike Duration: 4-5 hours
  • Distance Covered: 10 km
  • Accommodation: Tea House

As we mentioned earlier, if you’re a regular trekker, it wouldn’t be that difficult for you to reach Lho. In fact, we even have an 8-day short Manaslu Trek itinerary which says the same.

Anyways, this guide is for beginners and comparatively the best one too, as you won’t just hurry to reach the top but rather take it slow. This way, you get to indulge yourself even more in the Nepali culture and learn the lifestyle of the villagers.

So, on the fifth day, you’ll be ascending about 500 meters to reach Lho. The highlight of this day is going to be the beautiful mountains. Mt. Manaslu’s sight gets even closer from this day onwards.

Don’t forget to look back on the trail you’ve covered. Those beautiful hills and villages as your background picture shall be great. You’re going to miss these moments when you’re back home.

You’ll even get to see barley fields and how hard Nepalese villagers work to make their living. Sometimes, it becomes emotional, and it reminds us all of how lucky we all are. Thoughts like these pass by as you move towards Lihi and finally to Lho.

During your accommodation in Lho, you’ll now realise that you’ve already crossed the 3000 m park. For some of us, this is probably the highest altitude we’ve been to. So, it’s a good idea to check your oxygen level and make sure your health is all good.

If you think you’re already having some breathing issues, inform the guide as soon as you can. Start drinking plenty of hot fluids from now on, and in case it’s needed, taking that altitude sickness pill wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

Day 7: Lho to Samagaun.

  • Max. Altitude: 3,530 m
  • Hike Duration: 4-5 hours
  • Distance Covered: 10 km
  • Accommodation: Tea House

Shall we be honest with you? Your trek has actually finally begun, as until now, we have only crossed paths that every beginner can easily do.

And if you’ve been reading from the top, you might have noticed that the Manaslu Circuit trek is of strenuous difficulty. Only from this sixth day, you feel it as we’ll now start the real ascent that trekkers are here for.

From Lho, the temperature also starts to go down significantly. So, make sure you’re dressed up with all those winter clothes you’ve brought with you.

Also, since we are ascending at a higher altitude, the tree lines start to fade, and the oxygen level starts to go down. You’ll still be seeing some juniper bushes and willow trees for the next few days, though.

You might think that you’ll feel anxious at that time, but no! The snow-capped mountains are going to fill your heart and your love for Nepal, and the Manaslu Circuit Trek will grow even more.

The trek is pretty similar to the other days, but more mules and yaks will be seen from now on. So, take your smartphones and cameras out as it’s time to snap some stunning scenes.

Keep walking and don’t give up, and you’ll easily reach the Ribung stupa. We’re only going to ascend approximately 400 m this day to ensure your body acclimatises properly.

Day 8: Acclimatisation/Explore in Samagaun.

  • Max. Altitude: 4,800 m (Manaslu Base Camp)
  • Hike Duration: 5-6 hours (to Manaslu Base Camp)
  • Distance Covered: 8 km
  • Accommodation: Tea House

3500 m is considered to be the height at which most people start getting altitude sickness. So, this day, we make sure to get proper rest and keep the body warm.

That doesn’t mean you need to stay inside the tea house at all times. Samagaun is a wonderful and stunning village with ancient monasteries all around.

You’ll even get proper time to socialise with other trekkers, both locals and tourists. Many consider Samagaun as the best photogenic village, so make sure you don’t forget to take pictures and videos as we suggested earlier.

Go for a meet and greet with the villagers. We’re pretty sure they’ll love it. Don’t forget to engage yourself with Nepali games and especially engage with children so that their confidence in talking to foreign nationals grows.

From Samagaun, you can pay a visit to Pungyen Monastery and even Manaslu Base Camp (4,800 m). Since we are going to complete the circuit, if you want to pay a visit to these iconic locations, don’t hesitate to take an extra day.

Another spot that you don’t want to miss is Birendra Lake. Even though the lake is small, the view is breathtaking.

This day can be tiring if you go to those locations. So, after returning to Samagun, don’t forget to take proper care of your health so that your trek in the coming days doesn’t become stressful.

Day 9: Samagaun to Samdo.

  • Max. Altitude: 3,865 m
  • Hike Duration: 3-4 hours
  • Distance Covered: 10 km
  • Accommodation: Tea House

After properly exploring Samagaun, it’s time to ascend and head towards Samdo. The trekking route can be slightly confusing at this point, so stick with your guide at all times.

By now, your energy should have been boosted, and hence, the strenuous climb shouldn’t feel that difficult. Otherwise, continuous walking would have made you even more exhausted.

We’ll be passing by the same Budhi Gandaki River (even cleaner this time), crossing multiple bridges. The higher the ascent, the better the views, but also the higher the chances of altitude sickness.

Keeping that in mind, we only walked for about 4 hours today with a total ascent of about 300 meters. That should be easy even for beginners.

We’re not mentioning much about breakfast, lunch, and dinner as they’re almost similar. But the hotels do have other food items that you might want to try.

What Mount Glory recommends is not to go for those because Dal Bhat and other nutritious items that your guide suggests are always the best for the trekkers. You don’t want to fall sick after climbing that high, so maintaining your diet just for these few days shouldn’t be a heavy task for anyone.

Let us remind you that once you reach Samdo, you’re very close to Tibet, China (just 4 km). If you’re thinking of getting to the other side, it won’t be possible, as you don’t have the right permits and passes.

However, there’s a high chance that you’ll get to meet with Tibetan/Chinese traders. Be sure to wave them his and byes.

Day 10: Acclimatisation/Explore in Samdo.

  • Max. Altitude: 3,865 m
  • Hike Duration: 3-4 hours
  • Distance Covered: 10 km
  • Accommodation: Tea House

While many trekkers don’t stop here and head to Dharmashala right away, that’s surely not recommended for beginners.

3,800 meters is still very high for most of you, and by now, you’ll already be hearing about altitude sickness from other trekkers. It’s going to be a little panic situation at times.

But you don’t need to fear because you’ve already spent an entire day acclimatising in Samagaun. You’re taking it slow, which is the proper method to do the trekking.

So, one more day for acclimatisation ensures your proper safety. Thanks to Mount Glory’s approach, your glory in capturing the Mt. Manaslu base camp and the Larkya La Pass is just one day more.

Since you’ve come this far, you wouldn’t want to risk not reaching there. Thus, better explore Samdo just like you explored Samagaun for the day. This time, focus more on rest and make sure to keep track of your oxygen levels at different parts of the day.

Enthusiasts can even go for a short hike to Samdori Hill, where the view of the Manaslu region is even more breathtaking. From there, you’ll be able to clearly see the Simrang Himal, Ngadi, Larkya Peak, Hiunchuli, and other peaks.

However, the trail is a little risky, which even involves crossing multiple streams. It’s better to get to the Tibetan border and explore that region, which doesn’t involve any risk. Yet, it’s all up to you!

Day 11: Samdo to Dharmashala.

  • Max. Altitude: 4,460 m
  • Hike Duration: 3 hours
  • Distance Covered: 4 km
  • Accommodation: Tea House

From Samdo, you just have to ascend for 3 hours to reach Dharmashala. The hike is a bit difficult compared to the other days. Nonetheless, that 600-meter altitude gain will feel worth it once you reach the top.

The beautiful Larkya glacier will be visible throughout the trail from Samdo to Dharmashala. While there wasn’t much accommodation available in the past, Dharamshala now offers pretty good tea houses, so you won’t have an issue staying in the night.

However, sleeping at 4460m isn’t a joke either. So, it’s essential that you follow the proper diet prescribed by the guide. Don’t forget to drink hot fluids and keep your water bottle/thermos by your side at all times.

A pro tip to you: garlic and cloves do great in fighting altitude sickness. Make sure you have carried that. We have listed down all the essentials you need in the headings below, so don’t forget to read those out too.

Day 12: Dharmasala to Larke La Pas to Bhimtang.

  • Max. Altitude: 5,106 m
  • Hike Duration: 8-9 hours
  • Distance Covered: 18 km
  • Accommodation: Tea House

This is the most awaited day of the entire trip as you’ll be getting to the highest point of the Manaslu Circuit Trek, i.e. Larkya La Pass at 5,106 m.

You’ll start your day early with a stunning view of the mountain range. Since the uphill climb is technically strenuous, make sure you’re taking enough breaks and adopting the proper breathing techniques.

From Dharmashala, it takes about 5 hours to reach Larkya La Pass, which is going to be the major milestone of this trek.

Once you reach Larkya La Pass, you’ll be greeted by Manaslu North, Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II. Take as many pictures as you want because you might never visit this place ever again, and after all, it’s an achievement you want to show to your friends and family.

However, your hiking for the day isn’t yet over. You need to descend the same day and reach Bhimtang, which is about a 3-hour walk from the top.

Remember, downhills can be tricky for a lot of trekkers, especially for those who have knee pain. So, be very careful during your descent. Downhills are comparatively faster, so there’s no need to rush.

The Descendants is all about embracing your moments in the Larkya La Pass. Share your experiences on how you felt with your travel buddies. While the talks are ongoing, the time passes by, and you’ll reach Bhimtang (3,720 m), where you’ll be staying for the night.

Day 13: Bhimtang to Dharapani.

  • Max. Altitude: 3,720 m
  • Hike Duration: 7-8 hours
  • Distance Covered: 20 km
  • Accommodation: Tea House

The longer you walk, the longer you're on your trip, so let us tell you that you’ll be very tired. Some of us might want to spend one more day here just to rest, but sleeping at high altitudes can still be risky.

It’s just better that you descend more quickly, as your permit time limit might be nearing expiration. Also, you might be seeking some luxury stays after spending almost 12 days in the remote area of Nepal (some of you might not have even taken a shower!).

Keeping all these things in mind, we started our descent and reached Dharapani the same day. It’s going to be a 7-8 hour walk, but since you’re not climbing uphill, the hike can be easier than the other days.

From 3,720 m, you’ll be following the stone-paved route to reach Thonje village (1,850 m). Here, we’re going to stop for lunch and continue the downhill hike.

If you remember, you had taken the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit, which is going to be useful here. You’ll have to pass through security, so make sure to keep your documents by your side.

After a few more hours passing through Seti Khola and the villages of Homuk and Gho, you’ll reach Dharapani (1963 m). This way, you’ll complete the Manaslu circuit trek, and then, you’ll be staying in Dharapani.

Day 14: Dharapani to Kathmandu.

  • Max. Altitude: 1,963 m
  • Drive Duration: 11-12 hours
  • Distance Covered: 250 km
  • Accommodation: Tea House

While your trek has ended, the trip hasn’t. You still need to make a return to Kathmandu.

However, you’re already very close to Pokhara. So, if you haven’t seen the tourism capital of Nepal, you can go there.

The thing is, you don’t get a direct vehicle to Kathmandu/Pokhara. So, the guides will help you catch a shared jeep to Beshishar (760 m), which takes about 4-5 hours. Then, Mount Glory will take you back to Kathmandu via a private jeep.

In case you wish to extend your trip, don’t forget to check out our Pokhara tour package.

From Besishar, it takes about 7-8 hours to reach Kathmandu, which is about a 175 km drive. So, get ready for the bumpy roads yet again!

Once you reach Kathmandu, we will have a farewell dinner together. Our team shall be expecting the amazing stories that you managed to gather throughout this Manaslu Circuit trek.
