Way to Syabrubesi

Starting Point of Langtang Valley Trek "Syaprubesi Bazar"

Wake up the next day and enjoy your favorite breakfast in the heart of the capital city of Nepal. Once that’s done, we’ll help you hop onto the public bus that goes to Syapru Besi, Rasuwa.

You’ll be going through the corridors of the scenic Trishuli River. First, from Kathmandu to Nuwakot and then towards the Rasuwa district, through the Trishuli Highway connecting to Pasang Lhamu Highway.

Seriously, this is one of the best routes in Nepal, and you’ll already be mesmerized by the unique views. The bus directly stops at Trishuli Bazar for lunch.

Heard of Gosaikunda Lake? Well, we’re even going to reach its starting point (Dhunche) on the way. Then, the bus continues towards Thulo Bharku and finally reaches Syabru Besi after 7 to 8 hours of long drive.

The road condition has improved over the years, but still, there are certain off-road sections once you reach Rasuwa. So, you’ll have to be ready for the bumpy roads.

While many trekkers start the hike immediately, Mount Glory suggests taking a rest this day. After all, you’ll have traveled such a long distance of more than 120 km and the body asks for rest.

  • Max. Altitude:1,462 m
  • Time:7-8 hours/120km
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast,Lunch & Dinner

Way to Lama Hotel from Syabrubesi

Way to Lama Hotel from Syabrubesi

Your third day in Nepal starts with the beautiful sound of the Bhote Koshi and Langtang Khola rivers. Having a cup of tea/coffee and just wandering through the river banks will make all your worries disappear for sure.

But don’t just rely on tea/coffee. Make sure you have a hefty breakfast as your trek begins this day.

To start off, you’ll walk along the banks of Langtang Khola and Bamboo Lodge in no time. After a short break, the guide leads you to Rimche, which is the highlight of the Langtang Valley trek.

Passing through the lush forests of oak and rhododendron, along with waterfalls and suspension bridges, you’ll immerse yourself in nature. You’ll even get to taste the local Dhal Bhat here.

After a proper lunch and a short break for your tummy, we head towards the Lama Hotel in Mundu village. The trail is through the dense forest, which is silent yet beautiful.

With a total of 11 km distance covered in 6-7 hours of hiking, you’ll spend your night here at 2,480 m altitude.

For dinner, you can pick your favorite food. But if you ask us, we’re still going to recommend Dhal Bhat. Mount Glory is pretty sure that you’ll hear this sentence often – “Dal Bhat Power 24-Hour!” during your Langtang Valley trip.

  • Max. Altitude:2,480 m
  • Time:6-7 hours/11km
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast,Lunch & Dinner

Way to Langtang Village

Lunch Place Before reaching Langtang Village

The fourth day of the trip and the second day of the trip begins again with the trek through the lush forests. But keep in mind that you’ll also be passing through small markets and monasteries.

Our first stop is going to be Ghoda Tabela (which means Horse Stable). Since you’re going to find a lot of mules and horses in this village, the entire village was named after that.

And let us remind you: this is exactly where the scenic view starts. After a lunch stop at Thyangsyap, you can take pictures, and continue towards today’s destination—the Langtang Valley!

This is a very big village and you’ll have plenty of teahouses to choose from. Don’t worry! You won’t have to hassle with this part too. Our professional guide shall have made pre-arrangements for you and your group.

Don’t just relax here. Go and explore the village, socialize with the other trekkers, and learn the lifestyle of this Tamang village.

However, it’s essential to keep in mind that you’re now at 3,430 m high. If you haven’t been to high-altitude treks before, the risk of altitude sickness now kicks in.

  • Max. Altitude:3,430m
  • Time:7-8 Hours/15km
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast,Lunch & Dinner

Kyanjin Village

                                 Beautiful Kyanjin Gompa

You’re very close to the final destination now. The morning of the fifth day of the Langtang Valley trek starts with the beautiful panoramic view of the mountain ranges, Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung being the highlight.

Compared to the previous two days, you’re going to walk a little less this day. After your breakfast in the Langtang Village, you’ll head towards Munko at 3,500 m

Continue towards Kyanjin Gompa, which shouldn’t take more than six hours. However, since you’ll be trekking in a high-altitude region, it’s important to go slow.

Take more breaks than the previous days and keep yourself hydrated at all times. And the best part about the journey is that you can keep taking snaps all along the way as the beautiful mountain range serves as a fantastic background.

Still, you’ll reach Kyanjin Gompa by the late afternoon. Some trekkers might make it to the top by noon itself. You see—it completely depends on your walking pace and capability.

To make sure you acclimatize well, we’re going to stay here for the night. Keep yourself warm but do not indulge in any local alcohol that might make you sick the next day.

Don’t forget to roam around the village, and especially visit the monasteries. One thing to note here is that you need to open your shoes before entering any of these gumbas. That’s how you show respect to the Tamang culture.

Cheese Factory

                                              Yak Cheese

  • Max. Altitude:3,870 m
  • Time:5 Hours/6km

Tserko Ri

Highest Place of Langtang Valley Trek "Tserko Ri"

You may wake up as late as you can. Once you do, you’re sure to get mesmerized by seeing the nearby mountains.

Have your breakfast in peace without hurrying. Soak in this natural beauty as much as you can, as this is exactly what you’re here for, right?

Once you’re all set and done, you no longer need to carry your main backpack for today’s hike. Nonetheless, Mount Glory suggests you at least carry a side bag to carry the essentials, especially your snacks, moisturizing and sunscreen creams, and first aid.

On this sixth day, we’re ascending towards Tserko Ri (4985 m), which is the highest point of the Langtang Valley trek. Keep in mind that it’s more than 1000 m altitude gain, and some of you might feel shortness of breath and headaches. So, be mentally prepared for that!

Also, this is the most challenging day of all. That’s also the reason we let you sleep a little late so that you get as much energy for this rugged terrain yet amazing trail.

Our professional guide says that you can see more than 20 peaks from the top. Keep this thing in mind and just imagine how amazing the view it might be from the top. Hopefully, our words motivate you from now itself.

Once you’re satisfied with the views of Langtang Lirung and Dorje Lakpa, along with other glaciers, you can start your descent. Some of you might have knee pains, so be very careful!

You’ll return to Kyanjin Gompa by the evening. From here onwards, your mind will be full of stories to share. Have enough talks and reward yourself with another plate of Dal Bhat before heading to sleep.

Note that if you wake up in the early morning and think you can push to Chorkari Ri (5,050m), that’s also possible.

  • Max. Altitude:4,985m
  • Time:8-9 Hours/17km
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast,Lunch & Dinner

Trek back to Lama Hotel

                                           Way back to Lama Hotel

Time has gone pretty fast, hasn’t it? We’re already on the seventh day of the Langtang Valley trek. It’s time to make a return to the starting point.

Look back at the stunning mountain range along with the loving Tamang people and their beautiful village for the one last time.

Have your final breakfast in the Himalayan region of the Rasuwa district. And then, we wave goodbye and march forward.

Unlike the previous challenging day of the hike, this one feels a little more smoother and easier. Descending is quick but the pains are surreal. So, be careful at all times, and don’t rush!

We shall be going through the same route that we had ascended on the fourth and fifth days. The stop for lunch will be at the Langtang Village.

You should reach the Lama Hotel by the evening. It’s going to be the same hotel to stay in. Don’t forget to share your stories with the same locals you had interacted with. They’d love to hear it!

Attraction of Langtang Trek

Fresh Water River Near Syabrubesi

                                           Langtang River

It’s the final day of the hike (not the trip though). After breakfast, we start descending to the starting point of the Langtang Valley trek.

Passing through the Rimche and Bamboo villages, we finally reach Syapru Besi. If you’ve got extra time, Mount Glory also suggests visiting Sherpa Gaun, which is an alternative route from Rimche.

Just like on the third day, we’re going to spend the night here. Most probably, it’s going to be the same tea house. But if you were not satisfied here on the previous day, you can always communicate with your guide and he shall help you choose another lodge.

It’s also going to be the last day of local Dal Bhat. So, enjoy it fully rather than opting for other options. We never know when you’ll be trying it next.

  • Max. Altitude:2,480 m to 1,462 m
  • Time:6 Hours/11km
  • Accommodation:Teas House
  • Meals:Breakfast,Lunch & Dinner

Syabrubesi Bazar

The Langtang Valley trip is finally over and on the ninth day, Mount Glory will help you hop onto the return bus to Kathmandu. It shall take 7-8 hours to reach the capital city and note the bumpy roads yet again.

A tip to you is that carry an anti-vomiting pill, which is easily available in any pharmacy here in Nepal. This prevents those of our guests who could possibly have vomiting issues during bus trips.

After 120 km of long drive, you’ll reach Kathmandu by the evening. You’ll meet our team once again and we’d love to hear your experience of the trek.

Not to forget that we’ll have a farewell dinner together and take some photographs. Hopefully, we’ll be able to feature you on our social media as well as this Mount Glory website.

We’ll help you choose the best hotel in Thamel for you to have the best night of sleep. We understand that you’re tired and are looking for quality sleep. We’ve got the best hotel recommendations in the city and you’ll love it for sure!

Useful Information

Langtang Valley Trek Difficulty

Hike on the way to Langtang

Mount Glory believes that Langtang Valley is a trek of moderate difficulty. We have measured this based on several factors and also after hearing reviews of our own international guests.

Here’s why the Langtang Valley trek is neither difficult nor easy:

  • It can be completed within 7 to 10 days.
  • The highest point of the trek is Tserko Ri at 4,773 (almost close to 5000 m).
  • Acclimatization is required as it exceeds 3,500 m.

We’ve seen a lot of first-time trekkers doing this fantabulous trek, and recommend the same if this is your first time in Nepal.

The only major challenge is on the final stretch to Tserko Ri, which has a steep trail, along with a high-altitude gain of 1000 m within just 3-4 hours.

So, the most concerning part of the Langtang Valley Trek has to be the risk of altitude sickness. Besides, you’re going to be in a remote village with limited Wi-Fi and mobile network. The rough terrain itself is another challenge.

Another important point we’d like to add here is that there’s a slight problem with pure drinking water too. While you’ll be passing through Bhote Koshi and Langtang Khola, these streams still may contain viruses and bacteria that may affect your health, if water is drinking directly.

Not to forget that you’ll be carrying your heavy backpack that makes both ascends and descends difficult. Besides leg pain, there are chances that your shoulder and back also hurt.

Last but not least, it’s the weather conditions and cold temperatures that pose a great challenge. Especially, if you’re from the tropical region, getting to this sub-region of the Nepal Himalayas means you’ll be exposed to cold temperatures, almost dropping below 5 degrees most days.

But guess what? Choosing the right trekking agency shall help you from the first day of your Nepal trip and ensure your safety all along. You’d be assisted by a professional guide and also a porter.

So, forget about the difficulty. Instead, focus on how amazing it is going to be in the lap of the Himalayas. Think about the stunning panoramic views and the new lifestyle you’ll be adopting.

This all makes it worth it!

Best Time to Trek Langtang Valley

Clear day over Kyanjin Village

The real meaning of trekking isn’t just walking or hiking for long hours. It’s more about experiencing the lifestyle of the remote regions, enjoying the majestic views, and connecting with nature as much as possible.

Imagine having to walk all those hours without proper views. What would the experience be like? Let us explain.

Suppose you chose monsoon season for the Langtang Valley trek. You won’t be witnessing any part of the story that we have been portraying up until now. On top of that, you’d have to tackle leeches along with sweaty walks.

Doesn’t sound like fun, does it? That’s exactly why we request our guests to choose the right season for Langtang Valley—it’s very important!

Besides the monsoon/summer season of Nepal (June to early October), all the other months are ideal for the Langtang Valley trek.

The spring season (March to May) introduces you to the beautiful rhododendron, which is also the national flower of Nepal. Also, you’d be accompanied by other trekkers, so the chance to grow your friend circle increases.

Similarly, autumn (often regarded as the post-monsoon season) offers clear skies in the months of October to early December. So, it’s best too!

Even the winter in Langtang isn’t that cold compared to the other Himalayan regions of Nepal. So, even in the months of December through February wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Each season comes with uniqueness. However, it’s essential to note that the weather here can be unpredictable. So, it’s always best to contact Mount Glory before booking the trip. We’ll then suggest to you when would be the right time for the Langtang Valley trek.

Permits Required for Langtang Valley Trek

Whenever you visit any national park or restricted region in Nepal, it’s a compulsion to get a permit. That’s the same case with the Langtang Valley trek.

The forest and checkpost officers need to know whether you’re permitted in the region or not. So, the question might pop up in your mind: “How do I get these permits?”.

Basically, you need to find a reliable travel agency so that they can help you out with this. And Mount Glory being one of the most trustworthy in this travel industry will help you sort that out.

Yet, it’s essential for you to know how much it actually costs and what kind of permit is actually required, isn’t it?

Since this trek is in the Langtang National Park, you’re supposed to get the permit for just that. And also the TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card. Here’s the complete detail:

Packing List For Langtang Valley Trek

Packing List for Langtang Valley Trek

A 10-day long trip to Langtang Valley surely raises quite a lot of questions regarding the essentials to carry. Without a doubt, you’d be equipped with not just one but 2-3 bags.

But here’s the thing—you won’t be alone to carry those! You can hire porters, and Mount Glory shall help you out with finding the trustworthy ones. Or even mules!

So, don’t worry about the packing. You may carry as many of your essentials as you want, but not those that you’re not going to use. Let’s think about the burden our porters have to carry as well.

That being said, we’ve compiled a list of the trekking gear along with other important items that you can carry for your Langtang Valley trek:

And even if there’s a situation that requires a sleeping bag, we shall pre-inform you. In fact, Mount Glory even arranges one for you that you can book and return later.

Accommodation and Food During the Trek

Accommodation During Langtang Trek

As we mentioned above, there are plenty of tea houses along the Langtang Valley trekking trail. Despite being in such a rural place in Nepal, modern houses and lodges are being built, which proves that this is a developing trail.

Besides the trekking days, we provide 3 3-star standard hotel accommodations in Kathmandu with a BB basis.

Regarding food, you can find most American items these days. However, they come at a price.

The specialty of Nepalese villages is that they provide nutritious food that helps you tackle the challenges of the trek. So, if you can control your cravings, opting for this healthy diet would be great.

Especially in the higher altitude region after the fifth of the Langtang trip, it’s essential that you avoid junk. Instead, rely on hot fluids and water-dense food. Here’s a complete guide to help you choose the best food in Nepal.

Mount Glory’s personal recommendation includes Dal Bhat (of course), Dhindo, Alu Tama, Thukpa, and Tibetan Bread (a breakfast specialty in the Himalayan region).

Local Cooking Places in Langtang region of Nepal

Cultural and Natural Attractions of the Langtang Trek

Locals Making Clothes in Langtang region

Just like other parts of the Himalayan region in Nepal, Langtang Valley mainly features Tibetan people. Thus, it’s very important to respect their lifestyle and culture.

The main religion here is Buddhism and the major caste is Tamang. Nonetheless, you can still find people who follow Animism and Hinduism.

Considering the uniqueness of Nepal, you can communicate in basic English. The people here definitely understand the national Nepali language. However, their main language is Tibeto-Burmese.

Kyanjin Gompa is itself a Buddhist monastery, so when you’re here, make sure to respect the culture.

Besides these cultural attractions, here are the natural attractions of Langtang Valley:

  • Langtang Himalayan Range: Langtang Lirung, Langtang Ri, Dorje Lakpa, Ganesh Himal, Loenpo Gang, and more mountains.
  • Tserko Ri: The highest point of the Langtang Valley trek at 4,773 m.
  • Bhote Koshi & Langtang Khola rivers.
  • Alpine meadows & pastures along with lush oak & rhododendron forests.
  • Other glaciers and moraines.

Challenges in the Langtang Valley Trek

We’ve already talked about the difficulty level, choosing the wrong season, and confusion regarding the packing list. However, there are other challenges of the trek too:

  • Getting permits can be tricky and difficult, especially for first-time trekkers.
  • Even finding guides and porters all by yourself can be troublesome.
  • The final stretch to Tresko Ri is a high-altitude region and ascending 1000 m in a single day poses a bit of risk.
  • While solo travel is possible for Langtang Valley, the rough terrain poses a risk. Since you’re not properly familiar with the trail, you may fall into unexpected situations.
  • The electricity is limited in the region, which means charging your phones at your preferred time might not be possible.
  • Also, we did mention earlier regarding this: you won’t find proper water filtration. So, there’s a risk of getting water-borne diseases too.
  • Showering is almost impossible, especially during winter.
  • Since you’re in an underdeveloped country of Nepal, the communication problem has to be on this list of challenges.
  • While the online payment system is popular in Nepal, the remote region has a lack of internet and poor network conditions. So, Nepali cash is a must to take!

  • Starting with Namaste. It’s the ‘hello’ and ‘hi’ of Nepal. This also shows that you’re being respectful (similar to Indian culture).
  • We did mention guides and porters, but it’s good that you hire mules too. This will help reduce the burden on the porters by quite a lot. We’ll help you arrange that for sure.
  • With that, the third trip is not to carry everything on your own—just the essentials!
  • And keep the important documents in your main small bag so you can take them out whenever required.
  • Only opt for a healthy diet during the Langtang Valley trek. Say no to alcohol and junk for the next 10 days.
  • When purchasing or renting your trekking gear, make sure to check it’s of high quality.
  • In case you have any problems during the trek, don’t hesitate to consult with the guide or send a direct message to Mount Glory. We’ll be at your service 24/7.
  • Start researching about the culture, people, and the main religions of Nepal. This helps you know what the villages appreciate and what can make them offended.
  • Try doing the Trek before the important festivals of Nepal – Dashain, Tihar, Nepali New Year, and Holi. This ensures that your post-trek becomes even more fun!

Tipping Culture

Besides everything, there’s a ‘tipping culture’ here in Nepal. Internation tourists and trekkers have always been offering something extra to the porters, villagers, and professional guides too.

While it’s not a necessity, others are doing it, so you might want to follow that approach too. So, Mount Glory suggests carrying some extra dollars besides the budget.

Trust us—the less you tip them, the more you want to give. That’s how hard-working Nepalese are and you might as well see it once you arrive here itself.

This is just a suggestion to you because we have heard from many of our guests that they wished to tip more during the Langtang trip. They wished to provide something to the children in the rural region and also to the porters who helped them on the trip.

A small generosity means so much for our villagers. We’re only mentioning the tipping culture of Langtang Valley so that you don’t regret later that you didn’t offer them something.
