Itinerary

After breakfast, you will travel from the hotel to the domestic airport terminal in the early morning for the flight to Lukla. The flight to Lukla is breathtaking in the early morning sunshine on the snow-capped mountains. The trip to Lukla at Tenzing-Hillary Airport, the entrance to the Himalayas, will take about forty minutes. After meeting our staff at the airport, the hike starts. It's a short walk to Phakding from there. Since Phakding is the first day of the Everest Base Camp Trek schedule, you will unwind there.

This is the second day of your budget Everest Base Camp trek. You are going to stroll through a stunning pine forest today. You will cross numerous suspension bridges as you stroll along the Dudh Koshi River's bank. One of the well-known suspension bridges you will be traversing today is the Hillary Suspension Bridge. You will be treated to breathtaking views of Mount Thamserku (6618 m) along the way. After passing through the communities of Benkar and Monjo, you will finally reach the checkpoint and Sagarmatha National Park entrance. You will also travel through Jorsale, the final village, before arriving in Namche. Our trail continues to climb through bridges and forests until it reaches the meeting point of the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers. Immediately following a final steep ascent of roughly two hours, you will catch your first glimpse of Mount Everest over the Lhotse and Nuptse ridges. You will still need to walk for another hour and a half to get to Namche.

It is always advised to appropriately acclimate before beginning any high-altitude trekking. Today is therefore designated as an acclimatisation day in the 12-day Everest Base Camp Budget Trek itinerary. Instead of sitting around doing nothing on your days off, you should be moving and active. Therefore, you will either spend the day exploring the Namche Bazaar or hiking to Thame or Khunde on foot. With a large number of government offices, Internet cafés, ATMs, restaurants, shops, and other facilities, Namche Bazaar is actually the hub of the Khumbu Region. Our guides will take you to the tourist visitor centre, which is close to Sagarmatha National Park's headquarters. There, you can see a variety of items pertaining to the Sherpa culture and the first Everest climbers. Additionally, you will learn about the Everest Region's diverse flora and fauna.

Although the journey to Tengboche is winding and dusty, the expansive views from the monastery make the journey worthwhile. There is plenty of time to concentrate on photography because there aren't many challenging climbs and descents. It's worthwhile to take pictures of stupas (Buddhist temples), prayer flags, Mani walls (walls with Buddhist prayers engraved onto them), and mountains like Tengboche Monastery and Ama Dablam (6,812 m).

The oldest Buddhist monastery in the area is visited before starting the trek from Tengboche to Dingboche. After passing the villages of Shomare, Orsho, and Tsuro Wog, the hike continues through alpine forests to Upper Pangboche, a sizable settlement. The rising mountains of Taboche (6,495 m), Mount Thamserku (6,608 m), Mount Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Mount Nuptse (7,861 m), Mount Cholatse (6,440 m), and Mount Lhotse (8,516 m) are among the magnificent vistas that can be seen while traversing the Khumbila Khola valley to the ridge top. The path continues up past Imja Khola until it reaches Dingboche.

Today is your second day of acclimatization due to the higher elevation, as per the 12-day budget EBC trek itinerary. Although you will be rewarded with an amazing view, you will need to rest in order to finish the last part of your journey. You could decide to rest for the upcoming hike or visit Dingboche and the nearby villages of Chhukung and Imja on this day. There are several ways to go on short hikes. Hiking options include Chhukung Ri (5,546 m) and Nagarjun Hill (2,128 m). Views of Mt. Makalu, Mt. Lobuche, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, and other peaks can be seen from the summit of Nagarjun Hill.

To get to Duglha, the trek starts with a climb through the Khumbu Khola valley. The valley starts to narrow as you approach Dusa. The path is challenging, with numerous enormous boulders and high-altitude mountain yaks passing close by. There are also numerous memorials honoring climbers who lost their lives en route to Mount Everest, complete with prayer flags and stones. After that, you will reach the route that links Cho-La Pass and Gokyo Lakes. It is also possible to see peaks such as Khumbuste (6,636 m), Lingtren (6,749 m), and Pumori (7,161 m). You may quickly get tired traversing the mountainous terrain on a typical hike towards Lobuche. There aren't many houses in Lobuche.

The trail to Gorakshep continues through the side of the Khumbu Glacier on this, the most crucial day of the Budget Everest Base Camp Trek. You cross the pyramid signpost on your way. Reaching the Thangma Riju, which offers a 360-degree view of snow-capped mountains, would require a respectable climb. The surrounding snow-capped mountains, including the top of the world, greet you as you approach Gorakshep. You will hike to Everest Base Camp from Gorakshep. You will return to Gorakshep and spend the night there after enjoying the breathtaking views of Mount Everest and the surrounding mountains.

You will arrive at the destination today after a 12-day Everest Base Camp trek. In order to witness the breathtaking mountain vistas from Kalapatthar, you will need to start early in the morning. During the EBC 12-day trek, Kalapatthar is regarded as one of the best vantage points. You can see the magnificent Mount Everest illuminated by the first light of the day from Kalapatthar. Similar to this, even as Everest starts to emerge, rising between the west shoulder crest and Nuptse, the well-known peaks, including Lingtren, Mount Khumbutse, and Mount Changtse, among others, loom to the east. You can photograph the surrounding mountains. Following a few hours in Kalapatthar, you will return to Gorakshep by descent. Following breakfast, you will make your way slowly down to Pheriche, where you will spend the night.

It will be a simple walk to the lower elevations today. Following the same path back to the terminal moraines at Dughla and through the expansive Khumbu Khola valley, your Everest Base Camp Trek will now require you to pass through the stunning Sherpa villages of Pheriche, Orsho, and Shomare. After that, you will arrive in Pangboche village, where you can tour the area's oldest monastery, which is said to house the bones and scalp of the disgusting snowman Yeti. After leaving the mountains behind, you will descend through the 3860-meter-high Tengboche Monastery before arriving at Namche.

On the eleventh and final day of your Budget Everest Base Camp trekking itinerary, the trekking trail descends sharply. As a result, you will need to walk carefully and steadily as your unsteady legs struggle against the rocky ground. After traversing the suspension bridges over the raging Dudh Koshi River, the trail becomes more level and organic. By today, the slight breeze will begin to warm you up. After travelling through beautiful pine and rhododendron forests, you will finally reach Lukla, where we will spend the night.

After a lengthy mountain trek, you will take a plane back to Kathmandu today. After taking your morning flight from Lukla, you will reach Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu approximately thirty-five minutes later. You can relax and take your time when you get to Kathmandu.

                          Useful Information

How hard is the 12 Days Budget Everest Trek?

The budget Everest base camp trip lasts 12 days and is moderate in difficulty. The Everest adventure is difficult for inexperienced trekkers, especially in the Himalayan terrain. Because you need to hike daily for 5-7 hours to cover the distance of 130 km (Lukla-Kalapatthar-Lukla). Another factor that makes the EBC excursion difficult is the high altitude, with the highest point reaching 5555 m at Kala Patthar, which increases the risk of altitude sickness. With numerous ups and downs, the terrain is challenging and steep.

But don't worry; the 12-day budget EBC trek is a well-curated travel package from Mount Glory that allows you enough time to acclimate in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche. You can resume your journey the following day with more energy to navigate the perilous Himalayan trails because of the rest.

Moreover, it is suggested for the trekkers to have good physical fitness. We strongly advise you to take regular 3-4 hour hikes before embarking on your Everest adventure.

When is the best time to hike Everest Base Camp?

Spring and autumn are the best seasons for a budget Everest trek, and most trekkers prefer this time of the year. The spring season provides clear skies and normal weather, which is ideal for such Himalayan adventures. Adding lovely flowers and greenery along the path to Everest.

In contrast, autumn in Nepal also marks the start of the festival season, which may coincide with your trek. You can enjoy a rich experience of Nepali culture during this time as festivals like Dashain and Tihar are celebrated.

However, as a moderate trip, EBC can be completed at any time of year with the proper precautions and preparation.

Offseasons such as monsoon and winter are possible, but they come with risks. Before selecting such a package, it is highly recommended that you communicate with your travel partner. Offseason EBC trek benefits include fewer crowds, a clearer view, and a thrilling experience if you are the adventurous type.

Altitude Sickness and how to Prevent It During Budget Everest Base Camp 12 Days Trek

Acute mountain sickness, or altitude sickness, is a condition that arises when individuals are not sufficiently acclimated to a high altitude.

                          Altitude sickness symptoms include:

                          • Headache
                          • Dizziness/light-headedness
                          • Nausea or loss of appetite
                          • Fatigue or difficulty sleeping
                          • Shortness of breath while resting

Altitude sickness is much more likely to occur when trekking at high elevations, such as in the Everest region.

To reduce the risk of altitude sickness, our knowledgeable trekking guides and trip planners have provided the following tips for your budget Everest trek.

Acclimatisation days (Namche Bazaar, Dingboche) are included in the 12 days itinerary to help you regain your energy.

                          • It is recommended to hike to higher points but sleep at lower points.
                          • Always stay hydrated, drinking 3-4 litres of water per day; avoid alcohol and caffeine.
                          • Choose carb-rich meals (dal bhat, noodles, rice) to fuel the body and immune system.
                          • Even if you feel strong at the beginning of your trek, you should always take your time and not hurry.
                          • Consult your doctor about acetazolamide (Diamox) as a preventive measure for the illness.
                          • Do not ignore symptoms like headaches, dizziness, or nausea; instead, rest or descend if they worsen.
                          • Get enough sleep, stay warm, and refrain from exerting yourself in cold weather.
                          • Follow your guide and always consult if there is any difficulty.

                          Guide and Porter Service

Guides are required for those trekking to Everest Base Camp. Mount Glory Treks has a team of experienced Sherpa guides and porters who will accompany you on every step of your journey.  Furthermore, our company covers the guides' costs, including meals, airfare, and insurance.

Our packages offer 1 guide for up to 8 trekkers travelling together. If there are more than 8 people in a group, we will add an assistant guide to make things easier.

For your information, porter services are not included in our package, but it is recommended to have a porter during the EBC trek. You can add on porter service at an additional cost. Normally one porter can carry backpacks of about 2 trekkers with 20-25 kg weight.

                          About Lukla Flight

Flying to Lukla is the starting point of the Everest Base Camp Trek. It is a short 30-35 minute flight from Kathmandu but offers a thrilling air experience.

The Lukla flight is diverted from Manthali Airport, Ramechhap, during the months of March–April and October–November. It takes five hours to drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap and 15 minutes to fly to Lukla. The Nepalese government made this decision to reduce air traffic congestion during peak trekking season.

Travellers are typically allowed to bring 10 kg of checked luggage and 5 kg of hand luggage on flights; additional fees apply for bags weighing more than 15 kg.

The flight to Lukla or the flight back to Kathmandu may be abruptly cancelled due to bad weather. It can occur at any time, even during the busiest time of year. You will need to shorten your trek or take a helicopter flight if the flight is delayed or cancelled.
