Explore the Serene Gurung and Thakali Villages of Manang with Rich Tibetan-Inspired Traditions

Manang, a high-altitude village at 3540 meters that provides breathtaking views of Annapurna II, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak, is one of the main destinations of this 11-day Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake. Additionally, Manang is a center for acclimatization, and you will spend a day getting used to it while on the Annapurna Circuit trek itinerary. This is a crucial stop since it gets you ready for the journey to Thorong La Pass, which is 5416 meters high.

With the Mani walls, prayer flags, and Buddhist monasteries scattered throughout the village, you will be able to observe traditional Tibetan-influenced culture. The hospitality of the Gurung and Thakali people will allow you to experience their rich culture fully. Additionally, the area is convenient for trekkers because it has small shops that sell local handicrafts, snacks, and trekking equipment.

There are beautiful trails all around the village for quick side trips to locations like Ice Lake and Gangapurna Lake while you're there. You can learn more about the Annapurna region's history, culture, and way of life by listening to the amiable locals share their perspectives. Beautiful views of the Annapurna range at sunrise and sunset are readily available from Manang, which enhances the flavor of your challenging Annapurna Circuit trek.

Spiritual Cleansing at Muktinath Temple

Along with offering breathtaking mountain vistas and cultural immersion, the challenging journey to Nepal's Himalayas also includes a spiritual and religious stop at Muktinath Temple. Muktinath Temple, one of the main destinations on the Annapurna Circuit Trek, is situated at 3710 meters in Mustang and is revered by both Hindus and Buddhists.

For your information, Buddhists identify it with Avalokiteśvara, while Hindus honor it as one of the 108 divya desams devoted to Lord Vishnu. The temple features 108 muktidhara, or water spouts, which are thought to have ritual purification after you dip in them all. Furthermore, an eternal flame powered by natural gas is located close to the Jwala Mai Temple, adding to the site's significance. During your Annapurna journey, Muktinath, which is located close to the base of Thorong La Pass, offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas.

Peaceful Beauty of Turquoise Tilicho Lake

Next up on the 11-day Annapurna Circuit Trek itinerary is Tilicho Lake, the ultimate destination. One of the highest lakes in the world, Tilicho Lake, is located in the Manang district at an elevation of 4919 meters. Known for its turquoise waters, the tranquil lake on the Annapurna Circuit trail was created by glacial melt from Tilicho Peak and the surrounding mountains.
Additionally, Tilicho Lake is culturally significant to both Buddhists and Hindus.

With the surrounding peaks of the Annapurna range providing a dramatic backdrop, unwind at the serene Tilicho Lake. Even though the lake is frequently frozen during the winter, its true colors are revealed in the summer. It is one of the Annapurna region's most rewarding destinations.

Conquering the High Altitude Challenge of Thorong La Pass 5416m

Thorong La Pass, which is 5416 meters above sea level, is a difficult adventure with unparalleled rewards. The Annapurna Circuit Trek's highest point is this monument. Travelers can enjoy sweeping views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges from the high pass. Because Thorong La Pass presents difficulties due to its high altitude, we have scheduled acclimatization days in Manang.

Trekkers must be able to withstand rocky terrain, steep ascents, and unpredictable weather on the Thorong La pass trails. Additionally, for trekkers, crossing Thorong La is a rite of passage that is frequently marked with prayer flags. Along the trek, the pass offers a cultural transition by joining the Manang side with the Muktinath and Mustang regions.

You are rewarded with breathtaking lighting over the Himalayan peaks and valleys when you rise from the pass. With prayer flags, stupas, and small chortens, you can clearly see the local Tibetan Buddhist influences along the route. As you descend from the pass, you enter the Kali Gandaki Valley and head towards Muktinath, where you will experience adventure along with spiritual and scenic rewards.

Itinerary

On your first day of your Annapurna experience, your guide will collect you from your hotel and take you to the bus park. The bus from Kathmandu will take about 5–6 hours, taking you first through busy streets and into rural areas to finally take you to the scenic bank of the Marshyangdi River to Besisahar, the beginning of the Annapurna Circuit. Traveling by local bus includes an element of culture in your journey. You'll have the local bus break and lunch, with a nice local meal as well. After the bus, you'll start your journey to the mountains!

The bus cannot get you into Chame, as the road is in too rough shape, so we transfer to a shared jeep. The jeep will leave Besisahar following the roaring river along the cliffs to waterfalls and beautiful scenery. You will travel through the first traditional villages of the Annapurna Circuit. They are Syange, Jagat, Chamje, and Dharapani, and then Timang to get your first view of Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal, and Manaslu. After about five bumpy hours by jeep, you will arrive in Chame (2670 m). Here you will stay overnight at a teahouse and get some rest in a comfortable teahouse before your trek begins.

Following breakfast in Chame, you will formally start your journey to the thrilling Annapurna region, which will follow towering pine and fir forests with the serene sound of the Maryangdi River at your side. You will cross a number of suspension bridges along the way, providing you with exhilarating experiences and continuous views of the Annapurna mountain ranges. After a few hours of walking, you will arrive at Bhratang (2850 m), a well-known village with apple orchards and the ideal place to stop for some fresh juice or snacks. Following five to six hours of breathtaking hiking, you will reach Lower Pisang (3200 m) after crossing Dhikur Pokhari (3060 m).

With breathtaking mountain views of Annapurna II, III, IV, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak, you will depart Pisang on this day and begin your trek to Manang. You'll soon have to make the difficult but rewarding ascent to Ghyaru (3730 m), which offers breathtaking views of the valley and mountains. Parts of the pine and rhododendron forests you will traverse during your journey will offer you shade. Crossing through small monasteries, prayer flags, and chortens, as well as quickly navigating the trail junction at Braga/Mungji, you descend to Manang (3540 m), where you will spend the night.

After several days of trekking, you will have gained a significant amount of elevation, and since your body will require time to acclimate to the high altitudes, you will stop at Manang on this day. However, don't worry; in addition to relaxing at Manang, you will also have the opportunity to visit neighboring breathtaking locations like Ice Lake (4100 m) and Gangapurna Lake (4000 m).

The serene and less crowded Gangapurna Lake, a glacial lake with a stunning view of the Gangapurna peak, is a great place to de-stress. Similarly, Ice Lake is another glacial lake close to Manang that features snow-capped peaks in the distance.

Following a restorative day at Manang, you will start your hike through the alpine terrain, passing rocky terrain, small pastures, and yak grazing areas as the trail exits the forest. In comparison to other days of the Annapurna circuit trek, this one is not particularly taxing. After hiking for four to five hours, you will eventually arrive at Shree Kharka, today's destination. This small settlement of lodges and teahouses is less crowded than Manang.

You will depart from Shree Kharka and travel to Tilicho Base Camp on the sixth day of the 11-day Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake itinerary. The trail travels through rocky outcrops, yak grazing areas, and areas with little vegetation, all of which are characteristics of high-altitude alpine terrain. Like majority of your journey, you will always be accompanied by the Annapurna and Lamjung peak views.

As you travel through the isolated Annapurna region, you will come across tiny teahouses or camps that provide far fewer amenities than Manang. You will arrive at Tilicho Base Camp (4900 m), which is situated at the base of Tilicho Glacier and Tilicho Peak, after navigating tiny glacial streams and other obstacles. The night you spend there will be peaceful and serene, with breathtaking distant views of Tilicho Lake.

Today is an important part of your Annapurna circuit itinerary because it is the day you will arrive at your ultimate destination. Early in the morning, following breakfast and a breathtaking sunrise, you will set out on your adventure for the day. Along the way, you will get up-close looks at Tilicho Peak, a striking glacier-covered peak that rises above the lake.
You will reach Tilicho Lake (4919 m) after a few climbs. This glacial lake is very photogenic because of the snow-capped peaks that surround it. You head back to your path after enjoying a peaceful moment with the stunning Tilicho Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world.

After a leisurely descent through alpine terrain with expansive views of the mountains and sporadic small streams crossing the trail, you will return to Shree Kharka and spend the night there.

Following breakfast, you will begin your journey through open pastures with little vegetation on this day of your Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho package. As the name suggests, you will also see small seasonal settlements and frequently see yaks and yak herders. After two to three hours of hiking, you will reach Yak Kharka, which is home to tiny tea house settlements with basic amenities primarily for yak herders and trekkers. You will spend the night in a similar tea house, preparing for the adventure that awaits you tomorrow.

This day marks the transition from gentle alpine fields to high-pass preparation, and your trail gets rougher as the rocky high-altitude terrain arrives. Although the actual trip is brief, it involves trekking at high elevations with several steep sections. You will then arrive at Thorong Phedi, a clustered settlement that serves as a critical staging point for trekkers attempting Thorong La.

Since you will be reaching the highest point of the trek, Thorong La Pass (5416 m), on day ten of your Annapurna region adventure, it is crucial. Your hike will start early, ideally between 4 and 5 am, in order to witness the sunrise. Along the way, you will see the surreal golden light illuminate the Annapurna II, Nilgiri, and Dhaulagiri ranges. A true test of endurance, the high-altitude pass trek is physically taxing due to its steep ascent, snow patches, and thin-air ascent. Mani walls, prayer flags, and tiny stupas are also visible along the Thorong La Pass, marking the pass and providing opportunities for introspection or rituals, serving as a spiritual landmark.

After crossing the Thorong La Pass, you will descend steeply but gradually, switching back trails as you wind down the rocky, desolate valley. Although your knees may hurt, the views are worth every bit of the effort. You will eventually reach the Muktinath temple (3800 m) after traversing tiny communities like Ledtar and ascending from high alpine peaks to arid desert-like terrain. During your stay at Muktinath, you will experience a unique blend of Himalayan culture, architecture, and religion as pilgrims, monks, and trekkers come together.

After breakfast at Muktinath in the morning, you will prepare for the return trip to Pokhara via bus. You will be able to enjoy your journey through the Annapurna region and relive the moments if you take in the breathtaking views of the mountains and the flowing rivers. You will eventually arrive in Pokhara after an 8–10 hour local bus ride, which also signifies the conclusion of this 11-day Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake itinerary.

Note: Even though the trip ends when you get to Pokhara, we can help if you want to drive or fly back to Kathmandu. If you have more time and want to see other locations, you can also look at our Chitwan jungle safari or different packages.

                        Useful Information

How Hard is the Annapurna Circuit Via Tilicho Lake Trek?

The Annapurna Circuit Trek's 360-degree panoramic views of the Annapurna region and neighboring mountains make it one of Nepal's most picturesque treks. To top it all off, this 11-day Annapurna excursion is a moderately challenging trek suitable for hikers of all skill levels.

                        Food

Your body will require healthy, high-carbohydrate meals when traveling at high elevations, such as the Thorong La Pass with Tilicho Lake, and when engaging in physically taxing activities, such as trekking. Because of this, our 11-day Annapurna circuit trip itinerary includes three wholesome meals every day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) in consideration of your needs.

Although you can choose from the menu, keep in mind that due to the remote location, there might not be as many options as you would like.

There are plenty of food options, including pizza, fried rice, thukpa, chow mein, noodle dishes, porridges, vegetable soup, garlic soup, and Dal Bhat Tarkari.

Additionally, trekkers are reminded that in addition to the three daily meals, other food items like tea, coffee, cold drinks, and snacks come at an extra cost.

                         Accommodation

This Annapurna Circuit Via Tilico Lake Trek itinerary transports you to the high and isolated Himalayan region of Nepal. Accommodations in cozy teahouses and lodges with basic amenities in the Annapurna region are included in this package. Rooms for twin and triple sharing are included in the stay.

There are additional fees for basic amenities like hot showers, wifi, charging, and hot water in addition to the pass price. The remote location of the Annapurna region makes it difficult to find high-end amenities.

                        Travel Insurance

You need to have the right travel insurance before you embark on your Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake and Thorong La pass. The insurance must cover emergency helicopter evacuation at the highest trek altitude of 5164 meters.

For adventurous activities like trekking, we suggest making sure your insurance covers unforeseen medical expenses.

                        Tipping Culture in Nepal

Although it is not required, tipping is strongly advised as a thank you for the assistance your guides and porters have given you during your Annapurna Circuit Trek via Besisahar. Tipping should normally be at least 10% of the trip's total cost. If you truly enjoyed the service, you can tip more than the minimum required for the trip.

                        Porters & Guide Service

The Tilicho Lake Trek via the Annapurna Circuit requires a guide. One experienced guide is provided by Mount Glory Treks for a group of eight people. If there are more than eight people in your group, we will provide an additional assistant guide to make your trip easier.

Porters are crucial to your mountain adventure because they are in charge of carrying your heavy bags and luggage. Trekking in Nepal's challenging Annapurna region is nearly impossible without porters, which is why we include them in our package. There is also a porter for two climbers who can carry up to 25 kg of luggage.

Just so you know, our packages include the food, lodging, transportation, and travel insurance for the guides and porters.
