Everest Base Camp Trek vs Everest Base Camp Trek With a Helicopter Return

Everest Base Camp Trek and Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return offer an interesting experience with different limitations. An EBC trip, for the most part, 14 days, includes a full trek from Lukla to Everest Base Camp and from Everest Base Camp to Lukla. The Everest base camp trek with helicopter return is a short expedition that permits tourists to explore the Himalayan Region and get an up-close view of Mount Everest. EBC Trek by helicopter is often 10 days in length. Trekkers climb from Lukla to Everest base camp and return to Kathmandu by helicopter.

This choice is more valuable due to the cost of the helicopter, but it offers faster payback and benefits in case of time constraints or altitude-related issues. The choice between the two depths depends on the trekker's desire for a careful trekking engagement compared to the requirement for comfort and time efficiency.

Why Choose the Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return Trek Package?

The Everest journey of 14 days is a lengthy and demanding trek, but Mount Glory Trek teams have added a helicopter return to the traditional EBC route. This adds to the luxury and comfort of the trip, improving your overall experience.

Here are some good reasons to choose our EBC Trek Return by Helicopter

Significant Time Savings: Compared to the standard Everest trek, flying straight from Gorekshep or Lobuche to Kathmandu will save you three to four days of trekking. Because of this, people with hectic work schedules or little vacation time can still enjoy the experience.

Avoid Physical Exhaustion: The Everest base camp route entails knee-jarring, steep descents over rocky terrain. You can avoid the most taxing portion of the trip and prevent repetitive strain on your joints by opting for a helicopter return.

Bid Farewell to Repeat Trails: A traditional trek requires you to walk back down the same path that you ascended. The helicopter return keeps your journey fresh and exciting from beginning to end, eliminating the boredom of seeing the same teahouses and trails twice.

Magnificent Aerial Views: Take in a bird’s-eye view of the Khumbu area. A helicopter flight offers a panoramic view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and the vast Khumbu Glacier that very few people ever get to see, whereas trekking offers a ground-up view.

Ultimate Luxury & Comfort: Treat yourself to a luxurious ride once you've reached the high-altitude target of 5,364 metres. The same afternoon, you can return to a Three-star hotel in Kathmandu and enjoy a celebratory dinner and a hot shower instead of spending several more nights in simple teahouses.

Accessible for All Generations: The itinerary is a great choice for families with young children and seniors because it does away with the taxing downhill portion of the hike. It makes it possible for travellers with different levels of fitness to fulfil their dream of arriving at Base Camp without going beyond their physical capabilities.

Reliability Against Lukla Delays: Due to weather, domestic flights from the small Lukla airport are often cancelled or delayed. Helicopters are more adaptable and can frequently fly in situations that fixed-wing aircraft cannot, which guarantees that your international flight home will arrive on time.

Safety and Quick Descent: Being at a high altitude can be unpredictable. The best way to recover from the effects of thin air is to quickly descend to lower elevations as soon as you reach the highest point, which is ensured by a prearranged helicopter return.

How Do We Prepare for the EBC Trek with Heli Return in 10 Days?

The first step in preparing for a trek to the Himalayas is early planning. You must consider everything before embarking on your Everest trek, including mental preparation, airline reservations, obtaining permits, packing, and equipment purchases. The 10-day Heli Return Everest Excursion shortens the standard EBC journey.

This information will assist you in preparing for your high-altitude hike by providing you with advice on smart packing, affordable tips, and equipment rentals. Thanks to our local knowledge, you can concentrate on the trip while we make sure everything is as you want.

Before embarking on your journey, the following preparations ought to be ready

Plan and Reserve Early: To get the best prices and prevent last-minute issues, reserve international flights in advance.

Physical Training: To develop the endurance needed for five to seven hours of daily hiking, concentrate on fitness activities like swimming, cycling, or stair climbing at least eight to twelve weeks prior to your trip.

Break in Your Boots: Wear your trekking boots on local hikes or even around your house ahead of time to avoid painful blisters on the rugged Khumbu trails.

Altitude Awareness: Learn about the signs of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) and speak with your physician about taking Diamox to help your body adjust to the thinner air.

Hydration Habit: The best way to avoid altitude-related headaches and exhaustion is to drink three to four litres of water every day before you travel.

Mental Preparation: Develop resilience by learning about the "basic" teahouse lifestyle and picturing yourself climbing steep hills like the fabled Namche hill.

Leg Strength Conditioning: To prepare your quadriceps for the steep inclines between Tengboche and Lobuche, include squats, lunges, and step-ups in your workout regimen.

Insurance Verification: As this trek requires an emergency helicopter evacuation up to 6,000 metres, make sure your travel insurance expressly covers this.

Packing in Layers: Invest in a warm down jacket and premium moisture-wicking base layers so you can readily adapt to the drastic temperature swings between sunny days and chilly nights.

Weight management: While the porters take care of your main duffel bag, practice hiking with a 5–7 kg daypack to get used to carrying your own water, camera, and extra layers.

Dietary discipline: To maintain a healthy digestive system and a steady heart rate at high altitudes, refrain from consuming red meat and alcohol after arriving in Lukla.

Choose a Good Travel Company: Partner with a reputable travel company, such as Mount Glory Treks, to handle permits, logistics, and local knowledge, making your trip both affordable and hassle-free.

What is the Experience while Trekking in the Everest Base Camp with a Helicopter Return?

The Everest Base Camp Trek With Helicopter Return (65 km out of 130) is an extraordinary experience combining climbing through the Himalayas and a scenic flight back. The journey begins with a challenging trek through different scenes, from dense forests and terraced areas to trails. Each step brings hikers closer to the high peaks, with a magnificent Mount Everest. Upon reaching Everest base camp, climbers are rewarded with breathtaking scenes and a significant feeling of achievement. The adventure comes full of exciting helicopter rides back from EBC to Lukla-Kathmandu. This special blend of trekking and aerial sightseeing ensures that the journey is as memorable as the destination, taking trekkers with lasting memories of their Himalayan adventure.

Permit for EBC Trek

Before you start your journey in the Everest region, you must obtain two major permits. Trekkers need permits for the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Area and Sagarmatha National Park.

The following are the permit fees:

  • Sagarmatha National Park Permit: 3000 NPR
  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Permit: 3000 NPR

Note: All permits are included in our Everest Trek with Heli Return package, so hikers don't need to worry about them.

Best Time for the Everest Base Camp Trek And Return Via Helicopter

The seasons have a significant impact on your experience because the high-altitude Himalayan adventure differs from regular hiking. Additionally, it is essential to travel during a time when you can fully immerse yourself in the mountains when visiting a location as picturesque and breathtaking as the Everest region.

Weather stability is even more crucial for an itinerary that includes a helicopter return in order to guarantee a safe and beautiful flight from the high altitude terrain.

Autumn (September to November)
For the Everest with Heli return trip package, autumn is generally regarded as the best option. The sharpest, clearest views of Everest and the surrounding giants are possible after the monsoon, when the air is cleared of dust. Helicopter flight cancellations are extremely uncommon due to the extremely stable weather. Furthermore, Major Nepali festivals take place during this time, giving your trek a rich cultural component.

Spring (March to May)
The second most popular season is spring, which is well-known for its colourful scenery. You will be surrounded by lush vegetation and blooming rhododendron forests as you walk along the lower trails. Springtime brings pleasant morning skies and temperatures that make landing at Kala Patthar more comfortable for helicopter travellers. You can see the vibrant "tent city" of expedition teams at Base Camp because it's climbing season.

Winter (December to February)
Trekkers who want solitude and "movie-like" snowy scenery should go in the winter. Even though Gorakshep's temperatures can drop as low as -20°C, the sky is frequently a brilliant blue and clear. Helicopter flights are feasible and provide a distinctive view of the Khumbu region, which is entirely white. However, you need to be ready for extremely cold temperatures and the potential for flights to be delayed due to sporadic winter storms or significant snowfall.

Monsoon (June to August)
In general, the monsoon season is not advised for this particular package compared to other times of the year. In addition to making the trails muddy and slick due to heavy rainfall, persistent cloud cover and fog frequently result in the cancellation of helicopter and Lukla flights. The jaw-dropping mountain views you are looking for are frequently obscured by thick layers of mist, even though the area is incredibly verdant and serene during this time.

Difficulty Level of the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Return Trek

Reaching the EBC is a dream destination for many trekkers from all over the world, and while the helicopter return option makes the journey significantly easier by eliminating the arduous four-day descent, the ascent remains a moderate to strenuous challenge.

The high altitude, which thins oxygen and increases the risk of acute mountain sickness, is one of the major difficulties of this trek in the Everest region. At Kala Patthar and EBC, the journey reaches a maximum altitude of 5,555 m and 5,264 m, respectively, where oxygen levels are almost 50% lower than at sea level.

Because of this, acclimatisation is crucial, and even if you return by helicopter, you still need to spend at least two nights on "rest days", usually in Namche and Dingboche, so that your body can adjust.

You will walk for four to six hours every day for eight days in a row during the adventure. Thus, physical endurance and terrain become our next challenge.

In addition, the trail is well-known for its Himalayan flats, which are made up of steep descents and uphill climbs. The famous parts, such as the Tukla Pass and the ascent to Namche Bazaar, are physically taxing, so preparation is crucial.

Similarly, extreme weather and temperatures in the high-altitude Khumbu region present significant challenges. At higher elevations, such as Lobuche or Gorakshep, nighttime temperatures can drop as low as -10 to -15 degrees Celsius, even during peak season.

The weather in the mountains can change quickly. Helicopter departures may be delayed, and the trekking portion made considerably more difficult by strong winds and unexpected snowfall.

Beyond these obstacles, however, the EBC trek with a helicopter eliminates many of them, making the trek more comfortable and easier. Compared to other standard Everest base camp hikes, this 10-day trek is easier thanks to the picturesque helicopter return and a well-planned itinerary.

Flying out quickly helps you avoid the repetitive impact on your knees and joints during the 4-day, 4,000-metre strenuous descent, which is the most painful part of the EBC trekking route.

The best thing about the helicopter return is that, rather than trekking for four days while exhausted, you finish your journey at the pinnacle of your accomplishment, saving your energy for the flight home.

We can capture the EBC trekking memory and return to Gorekshep for an overnight stay.

After breakfast at Gorekshep, you will hike to Kala Pathar, the trek's highest point, 5555m. You will have sufficient time for a photoshoot and a mountain view. Now, it's time for a helicopter ride/ Helicopter trek that offers a panoramic mountain view in clear weather.

On this day, we will return back by Helicopter to Kathmandu and our hotel. That said, you do need to be careful while returning back.

Note:(One Helicopter Can Carry a Maximum of 5 Persons) If there are three travelers, you will land directly at Lukla Airport. Still, if you are more than three, then the landing will be at Pheriche or Syangboche, then at Lukla due to high altitude and low atmospheric pressure. After refueling at Lukla, you will directly return back by Helicopter to Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel. With this, your 10 days Everest base camp trek with helicopter return begins!

After Breakfast at Hotek In Kathmandu. Our ten days Everest Base Camp Trek (EBC Trek) With Helicopter Return ends today, and our representative will drop you at Kathmandu International Airport for your Flight. We will also provide you with a certificate of trek completion and wish you a safe journey.

That said, if you want alternate travel routes, you can always go on EBC trekking, Annapurna Base Camp Trekking, Mardi Himal Trekking, Poon Hill Treks, or Langtang Valley Trekking. Along with this, if you are done with Thorong La Pass trekking and are looking for Mustang and Jomsom Muktinath, the Annapurna region is a good place for you.

                      Lukla Flight Information

As the dramatic starting point for your Everest journey, the flight to Lukla is frequently referred to as the most exhilarating 35 minutes in the world. Passengers watch breathtaking takeoffs and landings on the short, sloping runway surrounded by mountains.

On clear days, the Lukla flight offers the broadest views of peaks like the Ganesh Himal, Nuptse, Langtang, and even Everest. This gorgeous flight perfectly captures the essence of the Himalayas from above, making it ideal for photographers and adventurers.

Additionally, during the busiest trekking seasons of spring, March, and April, as well as fall, October, and November, flights to Lukla are rerouted to Ramnechhap airport instead of Kathmandu due to traffic.

It is recommended to fly in the morning to avoid clouds, turbulence, and weather disruptions. Just so you know, the flight to Lukla is typically in a small aircraft with 16–19 seats, which adds to the exciting experience but may be affected by wind and visibility.

Because flight delays and cancellations are common, flexible scheduling is advised when getting ready to begin your journey.

Guide and porter during the Everest Base Camp Trek with a Helicopter Return

Guides and porters are typically included in EBC treks with helicopter returns. The standard ratio is one for 1-7 people and one porter for every two people. Porters can carry up to 20 kg of luggage. If you carry extra luggage, you pay extra money. Helicopter tours can be a good option for people who don’t have time to trek or lack the physical ability. They offer quick and scenic views of the Himalayas and Everest

                      Electricity/water/Wi-Fi/Charging

If you are planning on going on an Everest base camp trek and wondering how to keep your phone camera or laptop charged throughout your journey. There are many teahouses and lodges where you can charge your devices up to Gorek Shep. When you are higher region, it will be difficult to get electricity, charging, and Wi-Fi. We recommend that you travel with a carry-in extra power bank or pay a small amount depending on the elevation of the trekking route(Cost Starting USD 2-USD 3).

The water sources along the trail are risky to drink from. So, we suggest that all the trekkers not drink specifically from the nearby source. Mineral water is available to buy through the journey, using the water purification tablets or a Lifestraw.

Guides, Porters, and Luggage during the EBC Trek with Helicopter Return Package

The Everest Base Camp trek is a hike to the majestic Everest region of Nepal, and it is considered essential to have an experienced Sherpa guide to assist you in your journey. One main guide for up to eight people is included in this 10-day luxury Everest Base Camp Trek package; if there are more than eight people, an additional assistant guide is provided.

Porters are another key part of your hiking journey, because they are the ones who assist you with your heavy luggage. While on a trip to the challenging region of Nepal, it is essential to have a porter; that is why Mount Glory Treks will provide you with a porter in our package. One porter is provided for up to two trekkers, who will carry up to 20-25 kg of your heavy luggage.

Note: All the expenses of the Guides and Porters, like accommodation, food, transport, and insurance, are covered by our company.

                      Travel Insurance

Getting the appropriate travel insurance is essential before booking your 10-day EBC with a helicopter package. Your policy needs to be specifically designed for high altitude trekking because you will be climbing to Kala Patthar (5,555 m) and EBC (5,464 m).

Typically, standard insurance only provides coverage up to 3,000 metres. In order to cover every point on the EBC trail, you should make sure that your policy covers trekking up to 6,000 metres.

Similarly, since emergency helicopter evacuation is the most important part, make sure you have it. The only escape route in the event of severe altitude sickness or injury is a helicopter.

Other requirements include medical and hospitalisation coverage, as well as trip cancellation and delays due to Lukla flights and untrustworthy mountain weather.

Please be aware that our trek package does not include travel insurance, so you will need to buy it separately before you travel to Nepal.

Things You Should Know about the Everest Base Camp Trek With Helicopter Return

Before embarking on your Everest journey, you should be aware of some of the practical aspects of daily services on the Khumbu trail.

Additionally, since these extras are not usually included in the standard trekking package, you should account for them in your overall trekking budget.

                      Drinking Water

In the high altitude area, safe drinking water is essential for preventing altitude sickness. Bottled water is available in the Everest region, but it gets more costly as you ascend. A litre can cost up to NPR 400 in Gorakshep, compared to about NPR 100 in Lukla.

We strongly advise using a reusable bottle with purification tablets, Steripens, or filtration systems like LifeStraw to lower expenses and lessen the impact on the environment. Teahouses also provide boiling water for less money than bottled water, which is a better option because it saves waste and is more affordable.

                      Hot Showers

Gas- or solar-powered showers are available at the majority of teahouses up to Dingboche. In lower regions like Phakding and Namche, the price usually ranges from NPR 400 to NPR 600, while at higher elevations like Lobuche and Gorakshep, it can reach NPR 800–1,000.

At higher elevations, many hikers choose wet wipe sponge baths to reduce the chance of getting cold because nighttime temperatures drop considerably so you should be well prepared for it.

                      Charging Electronics

The majority of teahouses in the Khumbu area run on solar energy, so charging your gadgets is an expensive service. Depending on the altitude, charging a phone or camera battery typically costs between NPR 200 and NPR 600 per charge. We highly recommend carrying a high-capacity power bank (20,000mAh+) to save money and stay charged. To keep your batteries from being depleted by the cold, keep them inside your sleeping bag at night.

                      Wi-Fi & Mobile Network

Compared to other treks in Nepal, connectivity in the Everest region is surprisingly good. SIM cards from Ncell and NTC function well in Namche and, in certain areas, even up to Base Camp. The most popular Wi-Fi provider is the Everest Link network.

For about $20 to $30, you can purchase prepaid cards (such as 10GB or 20GB) that are compatible with several teahouses. Keep in mind that when everyone is online in the evenings, speeds may be slow.

                      ATM Access

Only Kathmandu and Namche Bazaar have trustworthy ATMs, and although there are a few in Lukla, they are usually out of cash or unavailable due to technical problems. There are no ATMs outside Namche Bazaar. We suggest that you take out as much money as you require in Kathmandu. It is safe to budget between NPR 30,000 and NPR 40,000 for personal expenses (snacks, showers, charging, and tips) during a 10-day trek.

                      Money Exchange

In Kathmandu, currency exchange services are easily accessible and offer the most affordable rates. Although Namche Bazaar offers exchange services, the prices are much lower. Before you fly to Lukla, make sure you have exchanged enough Nepalese Rupees (NPR), as local shops and teahouses only accept NPR.

                      Airport Pickup and Drop-Off Service

Mount Glopry Treks takes care of all your transportation needs, including airport pickup and drop-off, to guarantee a smooth beginning and conclusion to your trip in Nepal.

Our representative will greet you with the company's placard when you arrive at the international airport as a means of extending a warm welcome. After that, you can take pleasure in a private, air-conditioned car ride to your hotel.

Similarly, the end of the journey does not mean the end of our relationship; we also make sure that you are dropped off at the airport three hours prior to your flight.
