The Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is a remote trek in the high-altitude west-central part of Nepal, and it beautifully combines the Classic Manaslu Circuit with the hidden Tsum Valley. This 18 day wilderness journey is ideal for solitude lovers, as the routes are less crowded and more culturally preserved than the Everest and Annapurna routes.

Tibetan Buddhist culture can be witnessed en route to Manaslu, as the region is filled with ancient villages, stone houses, monasteries and prayer-filled landscapes. Likewise, this Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley Trekking is a spiritual trekking experience where you will visit peaceful places like Mu Gompa and Rachen Gompa, which provide a more meaningful experience.

Walking around the eighth-highest mountain in the world, Mount Manaslu, standing at 8,163 metres, also offers you breathtaking views of nearby mountains like Himalchuli, Ganesh Himal and many other surrounding peaks.

Beyond the mountain views in this 18 Days Manaslu Tsum Valley Trekking in Nepal, you will be crossing the dramatic Larkya La Pass (5,106 m), making it one of the best high mountain pass treks. Ideal for physically fit and experienced trekkers, the trek to Manaslu Tsum Valley requires crossing rugged terrain in high-altitude places.

A true example of an off-the-beaten-path trek, the Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek passes through the restricted area, which requires permits like the Manaslu Conservation Area, Annapurna Conservation Area, and the Chumnubri Rural Municipality, along with Restricted Area Permits. Meanwhile, the government rules for the Manaslu Region Trekking have been updated in 2026, and now solo travellers can acquire the permits. However, travellers need to join a registered local travel company and trek with a licensed guide.

In conclusion, if you are looking forward to the 18 Days Trek to the Manaslu Tsum Valley, then Mount Glory Treks have opened early bookings for 2026 and 2027. You can book the package easily through the website, and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any more queries.

How Do We Prepare for the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek 18 Days?

The Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is a strenuous and long journey to the remote restricted area of the Himalayas, which is why proper preparation is necessary. It is crucial to prepare for the trip in a number of ways, including mental preparedness, packing lists, travel insurance, and physical fitness.

Here is a list of preparations

  • Physical fitness: Start cardio training such as walking, running, cycling, and stair climbing at least 4–6 weeks before the trek, which makes it a habit.
  • Leg strength & stamina: Focus on squats, lunges, and long uphill walks with small bags to handle steep ascents and descents during the long hikes.
  • Altitude awareness: Learn basic AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) symptoms and preventive measures.
  • Packing essentials: Carry layered clothing, a waterproof jacket, trekking boots, gloves, thermal wear, and a good backpack with all the necessary items in it.

Why Choose Manaslu Tsum Valley Over Manaslu Circuit Trek?

The Manaslu with Tsum Valley is an extended version of the standard Manaslu Circuit Trek. This package follows the full circuit route around Mount Manaslu and further diverts into the sacred and isolated Tsum Valley region before rejoining the main route.

To put it simply, this tour package combines the Circuit Trek with a side trip to Tsum Valley into a longer Himalayan adventure. Moreover, it makes the trek more remote, culturally rich and time-intensive compared to the traditional circuit while still including all the highlights, such as the iconic Larkya La Pass.

You reach Dharmasala, also called Larkya Phedi (4,460 m), by traversing streams that are fed by melting glaciers and witnessing the change from alpine to arid highland scenery. Additionally, it is a small rest area that acts as the starting point for the challenging Larkya La Pass.

  • Max. Altitude:4460 m / 14632 ft
  • Time:5-6 hours hike
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast,Lunch & Dinner

The renowned Larkya La Pass (5,106 m), the highest and most rewarding point of the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek, will be crossed today. For this reason, you start your journey early in the morning before sunrise.

Trekking along the icy trails and rocky glacial moraines will allow you to see peaks like Manaslu, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Himlung Himal as the first sunrays appear.

Similarly, the last ascent to the pass is gradual but strenuous when the prayer flags flutter at the top. Then you will arrive at Larkya La Pass; it's a rewarding moment with unparalleled mountain views.

Take in the breathtaking 360-degree Himalayan views, which include the striking views of Annapurna II and Pangi Himal on clear mornings. You then start a lengthy, steep descent in the direction of Bimthang (3,590 m). This changes the trail from highlands covered in snow to verdant forests and alpine meadows.

After completing the Larkye La Pass Hike, you will arrive at Bimthang, a serene community encircled by towering peaks and pine forests, which is the perfect place to relax.

  • Max. Altitude:5106m / 16751 ft
  • Time:7 -8 hours hike
  • Accommodation:Tea House
  • Meals:Breakfast,Lunch & Dinner

As your journey draws to a close, you start the day by descending from Bimthang, leaving the high alpine zone behind and entering verdant forests.

Follow the trail along the Dudh Khola River, enjoying the dramatic change in landscape from icy glacial surroundings to warmer, greener valleys. Additionally, catch the final glimpses of Himlung Himal, Phungi Himal, and Manaslu before they gradually disappear behind the hills.

As the route connects to the Annapurna Circuit Trek close to Dharapani, you will also witness the fusion of Gurung and Magar culture. You get a welcome change of pace from the rough terrain of earlier days as you cross the suspension bridges and tumbling waterfalls.

Your trekking adventure comes to an end when you arrive at Tilje (2,300 m), a busy trail intersection where the Manaslu Region meets the Annapurna region. Enjoy a leisurely evening in a cosy teahouse while celebrating the conclusion of your Manaslu Tsum Valley Trekking with your Guide and Porters.

  • Max. Altitude:2300m / 7545 ft
  • Time:6 = 7 hours hike

How Hard Is the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek?

Even though the hike does not involve technical climbing, it does require good physical fitness, stamina, preparation and acclimatisation for a safe and enjoyable journey. Here are some of the challenging things about the trip.

  • High-altitude trekking: Crossing the iconic Larkya La Pass (5,106 m) can be physically demanding due to steep ascents and thin mountain air at such a location.
  • Long walking days: Trekkers usually hike 5 to 8 hours through rugged Himalayan trails, forests, and alpine terrain for 16 days.
  • Remote conditions: During the route to Manaslu Tsum Valley, you will find basic teahouses, limited facilities, and isolated trails that add to the difficulty level.
  • Gradual acclimatisation: The itinerary is designed with proper elevation gain to help reduce risks of altitude.

The route gradually ascends into the high Himalayan terrain starting from Soti Khola 710 m and then reaching extreme elevation at Larkya La Pass 5106 m, which increases the risk of altitude sickness for most people.

It is important to know that as the altitude increases above 3,000 m, the oxygen levels drop and the body needs time to adapt to the changing conditions.

Symptoms of Altitude Sickness

Common symptoms of altitude sickness are headache, dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite, unusual tiredness and difficulty sleeping. These symptoms are more likely to appear during steep ascents or extended stays at higher elevations in the Manaslu region, and they should never be taken lightly.

Prevention on the Trek

The best advice to avoid altitude sickness on your trip to Manaslu Tsum Valley is to keep a slow, steady trekking pace and get enough rest.

You should avoid alcohol and other physical activity, which may increase the chances of your getting altitude sickness. Most importantly, you should follow the “Climb High: Sleep Low" approach.

Safety Tips and Resources

If your altitude sickness symptoms worsen while hiking the Manaslu Tsum Valley trails, you should probably stop climbing and begin descending.

Furthermore, the experienced guides are there to monitor your health conditions and help to maintain a safe pace throughout your journey. Tell your guide about any uncomfortable feelings or issues you encounter while trekking.

Altitude sickness can be successfully controlled with appropriate awareness and cautious trekking practices, enabling a safe and pleasurable experience in the isolated Manaslu region.
