Mera Peak Climbing and Everest Base Camp Trek Route Overview

The Everest Base Camp Trek with Mera Peak Climbing Itinerary starts with a brief but picturesque flight from Kathmandu, the country's capital, to Lukla. One of the most thrilling airports in the world, Lukla Airport marks the beginning of your Everest adventure.

On the way to EBC, you walk through charming villages with stunning mountain backdrops, such as Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche.

Similarly, during this high-altitude trek in Nepal, you have acclimatisation days in Namche and Dingboche to make sure you safely acclimatise to the altitude while taking in the expansive side hikes.

One of the two destinations of this trek is the renowned Everest Base Camp (5,364 m), where Everest expeditions start. Hike at sunrise to Kala Patthar (5,545 m), the highest point of the Standard EBC trek and regarded as the best viewpoint for Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam.

You will also have to cross the isolated Zatrwa La Pass (4,610 m), a less-travelled route that connects the Khumbu and Hinku valleys, on your way to climbing Mera Peak.

Along the path that follows the Zatrwa La Pass trek, you enter the wild Hinku Valley. One of Nepal's most pristine alpine regions, the Hinku Valley Trek Route is home to icy lakes and glaciers.

Climb the rewarding, non-technical Mera Peak (6,476 m) for sweeping views of five 8,000-meter giants: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kanchenjunga. Additionally, you will experience authentic Himalayan mountaineering under professional supervision using rope techniques, crampons, and an ice axe.

Why go on the Everest Base Camp Trek with Mera Peak Climbing?

The Everest Base Camp Trek with Mera Peak is the ideal choice if you're thinking about trekking to the base of the world's tallest mountain and want to reach the summit while maintaining good physical and mental health.

In this journey of EBC and Mera Peak, you will encounter two very different Himalayan worlds: the bustling Everest Trail and the serene, unspoiled Hinku Valley in one seamless experience.

Reach the top of a 6,000-meter peak to go beyond trekking and gain access to more Himalayan expeditions. No other single trek in Nepal offers views of five 8,000-meter-tall giants like this one.

And it's ideal for those who want to climb mountains because you can get actual mountaineering experience with simple rope work and glacier walking under knowledgeable Sherpa guidance.

Similarly, after the well-known EBC trek, you would avoid the crowds as you cross Zatrwa La Pass into the wild Mera region, which offers pure Himalayan solitude.

As your body adjusts during the EBC phase prior to the summit push, a 25-day Everest Base Camp trek with a Mera Peak climb has a higher success rate and stronger acclimatisation.

The trip appears too good to be true, but it is, and the cost is very reasonable when compared to other trekking and expeditions that would cost more to complete separately.

Itinerary

When you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, our company representative will be waiting for you with the company's name tag. Following the meeting, you will be driven in a private vehicle to your Thamel hotel. Before we meet in the evening to talk about your Himalayan trip with our climbing guide, you have some free time.

Our guide will pick you up from your hotel for a flight to Lukla, which boasts breathtaking mountain scenery. After flying for nearly 30-35 minutes above the serene hills and mountains of the Nepali Himalayas, you will arrive at the Everest region.

Before descending to the village of Phakding, you will spend a little time unwinding in the Lukla area. There are peaceful rivers, suspension bridges, and rhododendron forests along the three to four-hour walk. After that, you will rest in a comfortable teahouse in preparation for your trip the following day.

After leaving Phakding, you will travel along the Dudh Koshi River through small Sherpa settlements and thick pine forests. There are a number of suspension bridges along the route, including the well-known Hillary Bridge. After checking your permit at Jorsalle, you will quickly enter Sagarmatha National Park and resume the trail.

Soon after, you'll start the lengthy uphill climb that will give you your first glimpses of Mount Everest. After trekking for almost six to seven hours, you'll arrive at Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa hub, at 3,440 metres.

You will rest at Namche Bazaar on day four because acclimatisation is crucial during the arduous journey to high-altitude regions.

Additionally, you have the option of hiking to the highest altitude hotel, Hotel Everest View (3,440 m), which provides sweeping views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. You can also visit Namche's cafes, the Sherpa Museum, the local market, and monasteries.

Begin the trip by taking a picturesque trail that offers continuous views of the nearby peaks. You will travel through rhododendron forests and serene alpine terrain as you descend to Phunki Tenga, cross rivers, and make lengthy uphill ascents.

After a challenging walk, reach Tengboche (3,867 m). Go to the Tengboche Monastery, the Khumbu region's spiritual centre.

Your trek today will begin with a descent from Tengboche, followed by a walk through forests and a crossing of the Imja Khola river. The route will take you through the quaint village of Debuche before continuing on to Pangboche, the oldest Sherpa settlement.

After a gradual ascent through alpine fields, you will arrive at Dingboche (4,410 m) while taking in the breathtaking views of Ama Dablam.

This is an acclimatisation day in Dingboche to help people adjust to the higher altitudes of the Everest region. However, for breathtaking views of Makalu, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam, you can hike to Nagarjun Hill (5,100 m).

Take a stroll around the fields to replenish your energy and explore the peaceful village.

You will walk through the Imja Khola Valley, which is encircled by towering peaks and glacial moraines, early this morning after your restful day. You proceed after passing through the memorials at Lobuche, which pay tribute to the climbers who died on Everest.

After five to six hours of hiking, you will reach Lobuche (4,940 m) and have close-up views of Thamserku, Pumori, and Nuptse. In a cosy teahouse with breathtaking mountain views, spend the night.

Since you will be arriving at your first destination today, today is a special day for your Everest Base Camp Trek with Mera Peak climbing. Begin your day by walking along the Khumbu Glacier on a rocky path.

After hiking for a few hours, you arrive at Gorakshep (5,164 m). After taking a quick break and leaving a few bags behind, you continue hiking for almost three hours to reach Everest Base Camp (5,364 m).  You return to Gorakshep for an overnight stay after exploring the base camp area, taking pictures, and taking in the historic mountaineering atmosphere with the magnificent snow-capped mountains all around.

You will walk to Kala Patthar (5,545 m) from Gorakshep for the best sunrise and a sweeping view of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse. Take pictures and take in the scenery during your leisurely time at the viewpoint.

After descending from Kala Patthar, you return to Gorakshep for lunch before resuming your journey.  You reach Pheriche (4,371 m) to spend the night.

From Pheriche, you will begin your journey by descending through Sherpa villages and alpine scenery. Enjoying the views of Thamserku, you stroll through villages like Dingboche and Pangboche.

After six to seven hours of gradual descent through the Imja Khola and Dudh Koshi valleys, you arrive at Namche Bazaar.

You will walk downhill through the villages of Salpa and Phakding after leaving Namche Bazaar, taking in the stunning riverbank paths. You reach Lukla after traversing a number of suspension bridges, pine forests, and traditional Sherpa settlements.

Spend the night in a teahouse getting ready for the next leg of the trip.

Start your trek from Lukla, following a scenic uphill trail through pine forests, Sherpa settlements, and peaceful ridgelines. The route gradually ascends toward Chhutang, offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks. This short yet rewarding walk is ideal for acclimatization and prepares trekkers for the exciting ascent toward Zatrwa La Pass and Hinku Valley.

Early morning from Chhutang, you start your trek through the remote forests and alpine meadows. And as you proceed, you gradually ascend to Zatrwa La Pass (4610 m), which provides sweeping views of the surrounding peaks.

You enter the less-traveled area after crossing the pass into the Hinku Valley. After six to seven hours of solitary walking and a slight descent, you arrive at Thulikharka (4,200 m). Enjoy the tranquil high-altitude surroundings while spending the night in a teahouse lodge.

Walking along gentle ridges, you leave Thulikharka behind and follow the isolated trail through open alpine landscapes and sporadic yak pastures. After a short five-hour hike, you quickly reach Kothe (4,200 m) while taking in the tranquil Hinku Valley scenery.

You set out on your journey early in the morning, travelling through untamed high-altitude terrain interspersed with ice-carved streams and yak grazing pastures. Admiring the majestic peaks and unspoiled valleys, you are struck by the Hinku region's isolation.

After almost five hours of taking in the peaceful alpine atmosphere, you arrive at the serene Thangnak (4,700 m) following a gentle, gradual climb.

You travel along a narrow ridge with expansive views of deep valleys and icy peaks after breakfast and some rest. As you pass through the isolated highland settlements, the terrain changes dramatically as you get closer to Mera Peak.

As you walk, you can see the moraine fields opening up where the horizon is dominated by the glacial landscape. After almost six hours of walking, arrive at Thare (5,050 m), the final village before the high-altitude camp. Thare provides a peaceful and secluded Himalayan experience.

Today's walk will begin on a rugged path that meanders through towering peaks, boulder-strewn slopes, and glacial streams. You pass small yak herder shelters and the remains of old ice formations along the way, which takes you to a place that is incredibly isolated from civilisation.

After about five hours of walking, you gradually ascend to reach the Mera High Camp (5,700 m), the starting point for the summit attempt. Additionally, while you rest for the summit push, you spend the night in a tented camp with expansive views of Makalu, Cho Oyu, and distant Everest.

This is a free day at High Camp for resting and acclimatising because the weather may not be favourable, or for waiting for the summit push. During the day, you can practise basic rope or crampon techniques with the sherpa guide, check and arrange the climbing equipment and go over the summit plans.

Enjoy the serenity and isolation of the High Camp with close-up views of the towering peaks surrounding the campsite. Additionally, get yourself mentally and physically ready for the summit push.

In order to witness the sunrise over the Himalayas, if all goes according to plan, you start a predawn climb from the high camp towards the Mera Peak (6,476 m). You ascend the peak by navigating rocky ridges and snow slopes under the expert Sherpa climbers' guidance.

After putting in hours of effort, you finally reach the top of Mera Peak and enjoy the unmatched 360-degree view of Kanchenjunga, Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu. Following a successful ascent, you return to High Camp before taking a short break and descending once more to Thare (5,050 m). With breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, celebrate your once-in-a-lifetime summit accomplishment in the Khare village.

Following your morning meal, you descend through a rough, high-altitude landscape that includes glacial streams and sporadic yak herder shelters. As you walk along the route, you will enjoy the sweeping views of the mountains receding into the distance, as the terrain gradually becomes more gentle.

After about 6 hours of trekking, you arrive in Kothe and can relax in the evening to reflect on your summit experience.

Begin your journey today by travelling along a secluded trail that winds through rocky ridges and high-altitude meadows. Observe the striking contrast between the wide open valleys and the snow-capped peaks as you cross the small streams.

Enjoy the genuine feeling of Himalayan solitude as you pass the same remote yak herder camps you previously passed. After long walks, arrive at Thulikharka and rest.

Begin your trek early as you retrace the route over Zatrwa La Pass (4610 m), taking in the breathtaking panoramic views one last time. You leave behind the high altitude wilderness as you descend through the isolated valleys, alpine ridges, and dispersed villages.

Additionally, as the terrain progressively shifts to lower elevations, you will pass through rivers and forests. You eventually arrive at Lukla after hours of arduous climbing. Your trip through the Everest Base Camp and Mera regions comes full circle when you arrive at Lukla.

You will take an early morning flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu after breakfast. After arriving in Kathmandu, you will have a free day to unwind or, if you'd like, visit neighbouring places. The local Thamel market offers souvenirs.

Our company will host a farewell dinner at a typical Nepali restaurant close to Thamel in the evening. The trip completion certificate will be given to you concurrently. We will also talk more about your experience climbing Mera Peak and get your input.

Our 24-day Mera Peak Climbing package with EBC Trek comes to an end today. Our company will pick you up from your hotel and drop you off at Tribhuvan International Airport, usually three hours prior to your scheduled flight.

Climbing Mera Peak may be simpler than climbing other peaks in Nepal, but any adventure in the mountainous area necessitates adequate preparation. The prerequisites for the EBC Trek with the Mera Peak expedition are listed below:

                                                    Mental Preparation

Mera Peak can be difficult, so mental preparation is one of the most crucial parts of mountain climbing. You need to be optimistic and focused in order to complete your ascent.

                                                    Physical Preparation

Even though climbing Mera Peak is not as challenging as climbing other peaks of a similar nature, it is still an exciting experience that requires the required physical preparations. Climbers should engage in regular exercise to improve their general fitness, strength, and endurance. Running, hiking, and weightlifting are exercises that help you get ready.

                                                    Financial Preparation

Careful budgeting is necessary for a stress-free, comfortable trip and financial stability when peak climbing in Nepal. A travel companion, guides, a sherpa porter, equipment, international airfare, and other necessities should all be covered by the money you set aside.

Altitude Sickness and How to Prevent It

The high altitude during Mera Peak climbing makes altitude sickness a major concern for climbers. To avoid serious illness, climbers should be aware of their symptoms and take appropriate precautions.

Here are some pointers for avoiding or treating altitude sickness:

                                                      • Don’t hike too fast, as you need to take time to adjust to the altitude.
                                                      • Stay hydrated, and make sure to avoid alcohol and too much caffeine.
                                                      • Descend to lower altitudes if symptoms persist or get worse.
                                                      • Hear your body; don’t push beyond your limits.
                                                      • Acclimatisation is very important during the trek.
                                                      • Seek medical assistance if you feel sick.
                                                      • Eat well and consume foods rich in carbs and electrolytes.

                                                      Travel Insurance

Booking a Mera Peak Expedition with the EBC Trek Package requires travel insurance because it provides financial security against unforeseen events like illness, accidents, and emergency evacuations.

                                                      Mandatory Coverage Requirements

                                                      • High-altitude coverage up to 6,500–7,000 metres is required (for Mera Peak).
