Embark on a sacred pilgrimage trail to Goasikunda in just 4 nights 5-day. It is a popular trekking route located in Langtang National near the Kathmandu Valley. Gosaikunda Lake, which is the major highlight of the trek, leads you through breathtaking landscapes, high-altitude lakes, and charming mountain villages, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural experiences. 

Through the steep ascend, your journey to this holy side will give you an experience of nature and culture. With the warm hospitality of the Tamang culture, walk through the lush towering alpine meadows, gradually shifting through adventurous cliffs to moraines and glaciers with mesmerizing peaks like Manaslu, Gaurishankar, Annapurna, Ganesh, and Langtang accompanying you. 

Abode to the legendary god Lord Shiva, the place holds both cultural and natural significance. You can see a peaceful relationship prevailing between the Hindu and Buddhist cultures. With ancient monasteries and Buddhist rituals along the way, you see Hindu pilgrims. During the Janai Purnima festival in August, thousands of Hindu pilgrims gather here to take a ritual dip in the sacred waters. 

Considered an important Ramsar site, the glacier water contributes to the flora, fauna, and the locals. Covered with dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and pine trees and alpine vegetation, the region is home to wildlife like the Himalayan black bear, red panda, musk deer, and various birds including the colorful Danphe (Lophophorus impedance), Nepal's national bird.

Itinerary

Begin your journey with an early breakfast for your drive to Dunche. Drift through winding valleys along the Trishuu River and traditional villages as you near the Langtang Himalayan range. 

Once you enter the Langtang National Park, make sure to show your trekking permit at the checkpoint. From here, you reach Dunche at approx. 1 hr. with a view of the Langtang and Jugal range. 

Upon arrival, check in to the lodge and spend your remaining day at leisure.

After breakfast, commence your trekking journey. 

Walk on a flat terrain paved with cement, then once you pass a suspension and a wooden bridge, the trail inclines through a steep and winding path to Dunche. 

The forest trail continues upwards to Dimsa, where you will catch a glimpse of some Himalayan peaks.  A little further to Dimsa, the path splits into two, where you will take your left leading to Foprang Danda. Taking your way uphill with a clearer view of the Himalayan Peaks such as Ganesh Himal, Langtang Himal, and the Tibetan Mountain range, you will reach 
Chandan Bari. 

Chandanbari consists of small and beautiful lodges made from stone and wood, with fluttering prayer flags and a small monastery. At Chandanbari, there is a small cheese factory, where you can visit and buy some cheese.

The trail begins through a gradual but easy uphill till Cholangpati. Walk along the mystical towering forest accompanied by the soothing sound of nature. Just before approaching Cholangpati, you will catch a glimpse of Langtang Himal. 

From Cholangpati, the view opens as you reach the top of the hill. Continue walking uphill along the ridge with the breathtaking views of the hills and Himalayas leading you to Laurebina. 

Walk along a steep uphill hike to Buddha Stupa. There is a small temple made from stone dedicated to Buddha at the top of the hill. The view from this point keeps getting mesmerizing. With another steep ascend you reach Laurebina Pass, 4,165 m, the trail heads downhill along the cliff, with metal bars on the side for protection. Once the downhill ends, you will pass through two holy lakes Saraswati Kunda, and Bhairaba Kunda, and finally to Gosaikunda.

Early morning explore the holy site. You can also cleanse your soul by dipping into the Holy icy water. 

According to Hindu mythology, Gosaikunda Lake holds a significant place in Hindu as well as Buddhist culture. It is believed it was created by Lord Shiva when he thrust his trident into the ground to obtain water. The lake is considered a holy abode of Lord Shiva and is said to have magical powers. It is also associated with the story of Samudra Manthan (the Churning of the Ocean) mentioned in Hindu scriptures.

From an environmental perspective, Gosaikunda Lake plays a vital role in the ecosystem of the Langtang region and is considered a Ramsar Site. The lake's pristine waters, fed by melting glaciers, contribute to the overall water balance of the region. The conservation of Gosaikunda Lake and its surrounding ecosystem is crucial for maintaining the ecological balance and preserving biodiversity.

After breakfast, retrace your journey back to Dunche. Since the major part of your to Gosaikunda was uphill, you will now be walking downhill.

Accommodation and Facilities During 5 Days Gosaikunda Holy Lake Trek Nepal:

There are decent accommodation facilities available on the Gosaikunda Trail. While you get to choose the luxury of having an attached bathroom in Dunche, the remaining trail has a shared bathroom with hot and cold showers available. 

Wi-Fi and charging stations are mostly located in the dining area, both subject to additional costs. Other facilities such as hot water and a shower will also cost you extra. 

With the warm hospitality of the locals, you will be served the national food, Dal Bhat with veggies and chutney, for lunch and dinner and flatbreads with tea, coffee, and veggies for breakfast. You have the option of a Tibetan menu like Thupa and butter tea along with a few continental menus.

Who can join this Gosaikunda Trek In 2024/2025:

With steep up and downhill to the highlands, travelers with joint and breathing issue is recommended to consult with the doctors before joining this trek. 

Make sure you engage in daily fitness activities like running, swimming, cycling, or exercises to make up the stamina for the trek. You need to be prepared at least a month before you join this trek. 

 

Guide & Potters During 5 Days Gosaikunda Trekking:

As it is compulsory to hire a guide, your trek will be more fun with a local friend to guide and educate you. While the guide takes care of all your hotel and other booking arrangements, having a guide will also remove the cultural and language barrier. 

While the trek may be moderate, the trail is mostly steep uphills and downhills. So having a potter carry your goods in the terrain will surely make your journey more relaxing.  


Safety and Security During Gosaikunda Trekking:

This holy trail is all safe and secure. Situated within the Langtang National Park, the trek, like the other trail in Nepal, has the friendliest locals.

Extension trip to Langtang Valley Trek:

If you have additional time and a little more budget, you can continue your trail by extending to the Langtang Valley trail. Considered one of the most beautiful trails in Nepal, it is an easy to moderate trek that diverts downhill towards Thulo Syabru from Foprang Danda. It takes an additional 4 to 5 days and concludes your journey in Syabrubesi, just an hour's downhill drive from Dunche. 

The trail is even more scenic, offering views of Himalayan peaks upfront. The major highlight of this trek is Kanjin Gompa, and you can summit Kanjin Ri, 4,773 m, or Tserko Ri, 4995 m offering breathtaking views of the Himalayan Peaks. You can also explore the Kyanjin Village, which is home is Kyanjin Gompa. 

Apart from this, you will be traveling to this trail for a cause. The 2015 earthquake destroyed an entire Langtang Village wiping the entire village. So while the locals are slowly getting back to their day-to-day life, and tourism is a major source of income, extending your trip to Langtang Valley will surely aid the locals' economy while adding a magical memory to your list
