When to Visit the Langtang Region?

The best seasons to visit the Langtang region are spring and autumn, just like for the majority of Himalayan treks. In addition, the spring months of March through May are considered to be the most pleasant for the Langtang Gosainkunda Lake Trek.

Because of the mild weather, the skies are largely clear, and the forests are ablaze with blooming wildflowers, magnolias, and rhododendrons. Trekking during this time enhances its beauty, and the daytime temperatures, which at lower elevations range from 10°C to 20°C, make it ideal for your extended journey.

The best time of year to trek the Langtang with Gosaikunda, however, is in the autumn, particularly from September to November. The weather is steady, the air is clear, and visibility is at its best during this time of year.

Additionally, the post-monsoon clarity provides breathtaking panoramic mountain views and ideal conditions for traversing the Lauribina Pass. The days are warm (12°C to 18°C), while the nights are cool but not too harsh.

For your 13-day Langtang Gosaikunda trekking, it is best to avoid the remaining seasons, such as the summer/monsoon from June to August and the winter from December to February. While it does bring lush greenery, the rainy season also makes travelling difficult due to slick roads and frequent downpours.

Risks of flooding, landslides, and general poor visibility are frequently caused by clouds and fog that obscure mountain views. Additionally, because there are fewer tourists and more lush vegetation, this is the ideal time of year for travellers who enjoy adventure and solitude.

Particularly above 3,000 metres, where temperatures can fall below freezing, the winter months bring cold temperatures. Additionally, heavy snowfall on higher elevations like Gosaikunda Lake and Lauribina Pass can occasionally impede the trial.

With the right preparations and packing, you can complete this trek in the winter if you are an experienced hiker who enjoys the tranquil beauty, clear skies, and uncrowded paths.

You start your seven- to eight-hour scenic drive through Dhunche and Trishuli Bazaar, which offers views of the terraced hills and Ganesh Himal. In addition, the route winds along the Trishuli River through rural villages and a verdant valley.

Finally, you will arrive at Syabrubesi 1,550m, the starting point of the Langtang Trek, where cosy lodges and teahouses are available.

On this day, your trek on the trekking trails officially starts after you have rested at Syabrubesi. You start your walk by making your way up through thick oak, pine, and bamboo forests.

Your trip is serene and offers stunning views as you cross the Bhote Koshi and Langtang rivers on suspension bridges, where you may see red pandas and langurs. Additionally, the Langtang trail travels upstream along the Langtang Khola to the Lama Hotel, a tranquil riverbank village where you will spend the night.

Your journey today will start with a steady climb along the Langtang River Valley, where the vegetation transitions from subtropical forests to alpine.

At Ghodatabela (3,030 m), you will pause for a short while to enjoy views of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m) and yak pastures. This will help you refuel and regain your strength for the remainder of the trek.

After travelling through traditional Talang settlements, you will arrive at Langtang Village (3,430 m), which was rebuilt following the 2015 earthquake.

You will follow the gentle trail from Langtang Village through the mani walls, chortens, and yak grazing meadows under the Langtang Lirung’s towering presence. You arrive at Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m), the spiritual and picturesque centre of the Langtang Valley, after almost five hours of hiking along the tranquil Langtang trail.

Since the historic monastery is a highlight of the Langtang Trek, there is a lot to discover at Kyanjin Gompa.

You will acclimatise or explore Kyanjin Gompa on this day of the 13-day Langtang Gosaikunda trek. Hiking to neighbouring peaks like Kyanjin Ri (4,773m) or Tserko Ri (5,000m) in the early morning will provide you with sweeping views of Langtang Himal, Dorje Lakpa, and Shishapangma, as well as the magnificent sunrise.

Additionally, today you will also be touring the yak pastures, glacial valleys, and the quaint village architecture. And before going back to a lower altitude, this will be the ideal day for rest and acclimatisation.

You will descend the same path that took you down the Langtang Khola today, passing through alpine forests and a small Tamang village, which always gives you a glimpse of real Himalayan life.

It will be a simpler day of trekking, with plenty of picturesque valley vistas and lengthy descents. You will spend the night in the peaceful surroundings of the forest after arriving at the Lama Hotel.

Following breakfast in the morning, you will start your walk with a steep descent to the river, then a gradual ascent to the village of Thulo Syabru. You will encounter Tamang hospitality along the route, as well as traditional homes and hillside terraces.

After five to six hours of moderate hiking, you will finally arrive at your overnight destination, Thulo Syabru (2,210m), with sweeping views of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Himal from the village ridge.

You'll start your slow climb through oak and rhododendron forests on this day, which offers excellent opportunities to see springtime birds.  Along the way today, you will also come across checkpoints and wooded paths that offer breathtaking views of nearby mountain summits.

After six hours of hiking today, you will arrive at Cholangpati (3,654m), which offers a change to higher altitude terrain and alpine peace.

You are going to reach the sacred Gosaikunda lake today, which makes it a special day for your Langtang Trek with Gosaikunda. Starting early in the morning, you will walk steadily uphill through rocky, rough terrain as the altitude increases.

You will arrive at the revered Gosaikunda Lake (4,380m) after five hours of hiking and following such trails. You will also be able to see the nearby lakes, Saraswati and Bhairav Kunda.

You will ascend from Gosaikunda to Lauribina La Pass (4,610 m), the highest point of the trek, which offers breathtaking 360° views of the Himalayas. It's a long and difficult journey that rewards you with rewarding views and dramatic scenery.

After almost eight hours of arduous travel, you will eventually reach Ghopte (3,530m) after passing frozen lakes and descending via rocky paths into verdant rhododendron forests.

You will see the change in vegetation as the trail gradually descends through small Helambu settlements and dense forests. In addition, a number of Buddhist monasteries and traditional Sherpa Tamang villages will be passed.

After several hours of descending, you will arrive at Kutumsang (2,470m), which provides a tranquil place to spend the night while admiring views of the far-off peaks and terraced hills.

You will start your walk along picturesque ridgelines with expansive views of the mountains and valleys from the Nuwakot district after a restful night at Kutumsang.  The tranquil Helambu region's farmlands and quaint mid-hill villages will be passed along the route.

Following a 6-hour hike to Chisapani (2,295m), you will see the last views of the mountain sunset before returning to the Kathmandu Valley.

You will descend through Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, which is home to a variety of plants, animals, and waterfalls, from Chispani. Before arriving at Sundarijal, you will pass through water reservoirs and forest trails.

The Langtang Gosaikunda Circuit Trek will come to an end when you make the short drive back to Kathmandu from Sundarijal.

                            Useful Information

What is the difficulty of the Langtang Gosaikunda Circuit Trek?

Generally regarded as a moderate to difficult trek, the 13-day Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is appropriate for hikers who are reasonably fit and have some prior hiking experience. However, this trek in the Langtang region does not require any prior trekking experience.

A trek's length, distance, altitude, trail condition, and weather are some of the most crucial variables to consider when determining its level of difficulty.

During the 13-day Langtang Trek with Gosaikunda, approximately 110–120 km are covered. Additionally, you will walk for roughly five to seven hours every day on a variety of terrain, including rocky high-altitude paths, stone steps, and wooded trails.

Speaking of altitude, Lauribina La Pass (4,610 m) is the highest point on the trek, posing a risk of altitude sickness and thin air. For this reason, appropriate acclimatisation days are included in our package to aid in the body's gradual adaptation.
Although the trails in Langtang National Park are well-maintained and marked, there may be some rough spots as well as steep climbs and descents.

The most important requirement is that trekkers should be physically fit enough to walk for five to seven hours a day while carrying a light backpack. Additionally, considering the trek's conditions in various ways, the Langtang Gosaikunda journey is moderate to challenging and doable for the majority of healthy hikers with preparation and acclimation.

Food during the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek

When trekking or participating in physically demanding activities at high elevations, like the hike to Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m), Tserko Ri (5,000 m), or the difficult Lauribina Pass (4,610 m), your body will need healthy, high-carb meals. As a result, our 12-day Langtang Gosaikunda adventure takes into account your requirements and provides three wholesome meals every day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Despite having a menu to choose from, bear in mind that there may not be as many options as you would like because of the remote location. Eating traditional foods is also advised for travellers because it is healthier and gives them a chance to learn about the local way of life.

The following is a list of foods to anticipate while trekking in Nepal's mountainous region:

                            Breakfast

                            • Porridge
                            • Eggs (boiled, fried, or omelette)
                            • Toast or bread
                            • Pancakes
                            • Butter tea
                            • Tea / Coffee

                            Lunch & Dinner

                            • Dal bhat with curry and vegetables
                            • Thukpa
                            • Momo
                            • Fried rice
                            • Lentil soup
                            • Vegetable stew
                            • Yak cheese
                            • Sandwiches
                            • Pasta

Additionally, the trekkers are reminded that tea, coffee, cold beverages, and snacks are extra charges on top of the three daily meals.

Lodging while trekking to the Langtang Region

On this walk to Langtang, you enter the isolated and mountainous Himalayan region of Nepal. As a result, during their Langtang adventure, trekkers are housed in cosy teahouses and lodges with simple amenities.

Furthermore, although the isolated Langtang region lacks luxuries like hot showers, Wi-Fi, and charging stations, these amenities are available for a small fee.

                            Guide and porter service

Guides are necessary for the moderately challenging trek in the Langtang region in order to gain a better understanding of the routes, locals, and difficulties. Therefore, to assist you on your journey, Mount Glory Treks will assign you a team of knowledgeable Sherpa guides for this trek. In addition, our company pays for the guides' meals, travel expenses, and insurance.

One guide is included in our packages for hikers travelling in groups of up to eight. To make things easier, we will add an assistant guide if there are more than eight people in the group.

We will manage an experienced porter service during the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek. One porter for two trekkers who will carry 20-25 kg weight in total.

Note: All related expenses like food, accommodation, transportation and insurance of our guides and porters are included in our package. But tipping is expected.

Water, WiFi, and Electricity in the Langtang Region

In Nepal's remote Langtang region, basic facilities like water, Wi-Fi, and charging are available but cost extra. Most tea houses are equipped with solar- or micro-hydropower-powered electricity and charging stations. Furthermore, charging phones costs roughly NPR 150 to 300 per device, and as you go higher, the price can reach NPR 400.

It is also recommended that you bring high-mAh power banks and solar chargers for your convenience. Tea houses in Syabrubesi, the Lama Hotel, Langtang Village, and Kyanjin Gompa also provide WiFI, although the internet speed is sluggish and inconsistent. The cost varies between NPR 200 and 500 per usage hour. The NTC and Ncell SIM cards work in some lower areas, but the signal is weaker outside the Lama Hotel.

In lower villages along the Langtang Valley Trek, bottled water can cost around NPR 100 to 150 per litre, and as you hike, it can cost up to NPR 200 to 300 per litre. A more economical and sustainable choice is to buy boiled water from tea houses, which charge between NPR 50 and 150 per refill.

Having enough Nepali rupees in cash is also necessary for these types of expenses because there aren't many ATMs outside of Syabrubesi. Maps and music should also be downloaded offline due to the erratic wifi.

                            Airport Pickup and Drop-Off

On this trekking package, we have also taken care of all of your airport transportation from the moment you land in Nepal until you leave. You will be picked up from Tribhuwan airport on the first day following your arrival and driven to the hotel in Kathmandu that you have reserved.

Three hours of flight, we will collect you from your hotel and drop you off at Tribhuvan Airport for your flight back to your home country. The last airport pickup and drop-off service is this one.

                            Travel Insurance

Having the appropriate travel insurance is essential before you set out on your daring journey to the isolated region of Nepal. Emergency helicopter evacuation at the highest trek altitude must be covered by the insurance.

It is advisable to ensure that your insurance covers unexpected medical costs when engaging in adventurous activities such as trekking.

                            Permits

The two permits required for the Langtang hike are the Langtang National Park Entry Permit (costing NPR 3000) and the Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) card (costing NPR 2000).

Note: Trekkers don't have to worry about permits because they are covered by our 13-day Langtang excursion.

                            Tipping Culture

Although it is not required, tipping is strongly encouraged as a way to show your gratitude for the assistance your guides and porters gave you during your Nepalese Langtang Trek. Tipping should normally be at least 10% of the trip's total cost. If you truly enjoyed the service, you can tip more than the minimum required for the trip.
