Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek Difficulty

This 5-day Annapurna Base Camp journey is a faster and shorter version of the trek, which has its own challenges. Although the trip is not that difficult, it is a moderately challenging adventure that offers trekkers an unforgettable Himalayan experience. The journey beside the gushing rivers and blooming meadows does not require technical climbing skills and is welcoming to both experienced and inexperienced travellers.

The thrilling journey to the glacial land involves long days of hiking, steep ascents, and rugged terrain, which demands a reasonable level of fitness and endurance. One of the key challenges that steps up the ABC trek difficulty level is the altitude. Trekkers reach about 4130 meters at the base camp, where the air is thinner, so you should be careful.

Rest stops at popular visiting places help you acclimatize during the journey. With the right preparation and reliable travel partner help, the ABC delivers a once-in-a-lifetime experience that blends nature and culture.

Permit For Annapurna Base Camp Trek

It is necessary to obtain two permits while travelling to the Annapurna region. One is the Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) permit, which keeps track of trekkers in Nepal and their safety. The second is the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP), which is necessary in order to enter the ABC region's Annapurna Conservation Area.

  • Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Permit Cost: 2000 NPR per person.
  • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): 3000 NPR per person.

Note: All the costs for the permits are included in our package, and we arrange the necessary permits for your journey.

Itinerary

Our guide will pick you up from your Pokhara hotel early in the morning, after breakfast. Then you will drive through the picturesque villages for 3-4 hours before reaching Jhinu Danda.

After arriving in the traditional village of Jhinu Danda, you will enjoy a peaceful lunch and some free time before beginning your trek. On your journey you will walk across the thrilling suspension bridge over Modi Khola and witness terraced farmlands.

After 2-3 hours of trekking through the gentle forest trails, you will arrive at the serene Chomrong village, ABC's cultural gateway. With the stunning views of Machhapuchhre and Annapurna South, you will slowly descend the steep stairways leading to the Chomrong Khola.

You will have an exciting walk at the suspension bridges over the fast-flowing rivers.

You will arrive at your serene destination at Sinuwa, a quiet village encircled by forest, after a few hours of arduous hiking. It is frequently used as a place to rest before traveling to the Himalaya and Bamboo. You will spend the night in Sinuwa at a comfortable teahouse, resting up for your trek the next day.

Following breakfast on the second day of your hike, you will proceed from Sinuwa along the forest trails. You will arrive at Bamboo Village, a calm destination encircled by dense bamboo groves.

Continuing your journey through the dense bamboo and rhododendron forests, you will gradually ascend among the peaceful atmosphere of smaller villages. The following destination is Doban Village (2,600 m).

Nestled in a peaceful forest clearing, it is a small settlement with a few teahouses that provide simple meals and rest areas. Following a quick rest and meal, you continue on your journey, passing famous sites like Hinku Cave and Himalaya Village.

The alpine transition occurs, and you will make a steep ascent along the narrow trails until you reach Deurali (3,200 m). This is your stay for tonight.

Today is a special day because you will arrive at the Annapurna Base Camp, your ultimate destination. After breakfast, you will stroll along the valley's narrow path, which is flanked by sheer cliffs. The forests gradually give way to rocky terrain and alpine meadows as you ascend. On your way to Machhapuchhre Base Camp, you will see picturesque streams cascading down from the mountains.

A gradual ascent through mountainous terrain will provide you with a 360-degree perspective of the Himalayan region. After that, you will arrive at the Annapurna Base Camp (4130 m), which provides you with up-close views of the skyline-dominant mountains Machhapuchhre, Hinuchuli, Gangapurna, Annapurna South, and Mount Annapurna 1.

After that, you will stroll through the ABC area and later take in the breathtaking sunset magic, where the Annapurnas' golden hues create moments that will never be forgotten. You will sleep in a teahouse surrounded by enormous peaks for the night.

You will start the descent after taking in the captivating sunrise's golden radiance over the Annapurna and neighboring peaks. After that, you will follow the same path again, but your views of the valleys and mountains below will change.

You will pass Himalya and Doban before arriving at Bamboo, where you will spend the night, along with natural landmarks like waterfalls.

On your final day, you will descend from bamboo through verdant forests, with tiny streams crisscrossing the path. Additionally, you will see nearby villages that offer Gurung hospitality. Beautiful river crossings will add excitement to your trip.

After that, you reach Jhinu Danda, where you can relax by taking a bath in the natural hot springs, which are ideal for easing sore muscles.

Following a restful stay at Jhinu Danda, you will be returned to Pokhara (via Jeep), where this short but unforgettable journey comes to an end.

Best Season For A Short ABC Trek

Although the short ABC trek can be completed at any time of year, the best season to visit this location is the same as for any other trek.

Clear skies and unobstructed views of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Himchuli are available during the spring's busiest months. During this time, the temperature is pleasant, and the rhododendron forests are in full bloom, which adds colour and vibrancy to the trail.

After the monsoon, autumn offers stable weather and expansive mountain views, making it another ideal time of year for the quick hike. However, because this is the busiest time, be prepared to encounter many other travellers.

Accommodation during the ABC Trek for 5 days

The short Annapurna Base Camp trek is a journey that takes you to the remote and elevated land of the Himalayas. This package includes accommodation for 4 nights in comfortable teahouses and lodges with basic facilities. The stay includes twin and triple sharing basis rooms.

Basic facilities like hot showers, Wi-Fi, charging, and hot water are available with additional charges excluding the package cost. Due to the remoteness of the Annapurna region, luxury facilities are rare to find.

Food during the short 5-day Annapurna Base Camp

While travelling on a strenuous hike like the ABC, your body requires nutritious and carbohydrate-rich foods. Keeping that in mind, our 5-day short Annapurna Base Camp trek package includes 3 nutritious meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) per day. You can choose your desired food from the menu, but keep in mind due to the remote location, the availability of foods might be limited.

Foods such as Dal Bhat Tarkari, MoMo, noodles, Thukpa, Chowmein, fried rice, pizza, garlic soup, vegetable soup, porridge, etc., can be easily available.

Trekkers are also reminded that in addition to the three meals a day, there are additional expenses for other food items like Tea, Coffee, Cold Drinks, snacks, etc.

            Transportation

During the 5-day Annapurna Base Camp trek, travellers will be transported in private vehicles if there are more than two of them and in shared jeeps if they are travelling alone.

The transportation routes include Pokhara-Jhinu Danda-Pokhara; besides that, the journey is done by trekking.

            Guides, Porters and Luggage

The short excursion to ABC has made it mandatory to have a guide. Mount Glory Treks provides you with one experienced guide for a group of 8 people. If there are more than 8 people in your group, we will provide an additional assistant guide to make your journey easier.

Porter service is not included in our package; however, you can still hire a porter by checking our Add-Ons Section. One porter will assist two trekkers during the trip, who will carry about 20-25 kg of your luggage.

We have not included the porter service for this journey, as you won’t be needing large backpacks on a 5-day trip. The remaining unwanted luggage can be kept in Pokhara.

For your information, the guides' and porters' food, accommodation, transportation, and travel insurance are all included in our package.

Altitude Sickness and Remedies during Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The high altitude during the ABC trek (4130 m) makes altitude sickness one of the main issues for the trekkers. In order to prevent serious problems, travelers should be aware of their symptoms and take appropriate needed actions.

The following advice can help prevent or treat altitude sickness:

            • Take your time acclimating to the altitude, so don't hike too quickly.
            • Drink plenty of water and stay away from alcohol and excessive caffeine.
            • If symptoms worsen or continue, descend to lower elevations.
            • Listen to your body and don't overdo it.
            • It is crucial to acclimate before beginning the trek.
            • Seek medical help if you're feeling ill.
            • Eat a healthy diet that includes foods high in electrolytes and carbohydrates.

            Travel Insurance

It is better to prevent than to treat. For this reason, before you set out on your ABC short adventure, you must have the proper travel insurance. The insurance must cover emergency helicopter evacuation up to 4,130 metres, the highest trek altitude.

We advise making sure that emergency medical costs and helicopter rescues are covered by your insurance.

            Eco-Tourism Practices in ABC Trek

The Annapurna region journey includes alpine vistas and rhododendron forests, each with its own distinct flora and fauna. So, incorporating ecotourism into your journey ensures that the short ABC trek is sustainable for future generations.

The following advice is given to visitors in order to preserve ecotourism in Nepal's breathtaking Himalayan region:

            • Minimize plastic use
            • Respect local culture and communities
            • Manage your waste
            • Conserve the resources and energy
            • Stay on marked trails
            • Respect the nature and wildlife

            Tipping Culture

Although tipping is not required during your short trek to Annapurna Base Camp, it is strongly advised that you give your guides and porters a tip in appreciation of their assistance. Generally speaking, you should tip at least 10% of your entire trip budget. If you truly enjoyed the service, you can tip more than the minimum amount required for the trip.

            Trip Extension

We have expertly planned packages like Pokhara sightseeing, Chitwan Jungle Safari, and Kathmandu Valley tours if you think the short ABC trek was insufficient and would like to lengthen your trip.

Your trip to Nepal can be made more memorable for the rest of your life for a small additional fee. For more information regarding your trip extension, you can contact our operation team.

            • Yes, the short ABC trek, 5 days from Pokhara, is well worth it since it will allow you to see the Annapurna Sanctuary, which is encircled by 8,000 towering peaks, in less than a week. Short, intense, and unforgettable.

We did a short trip to ABC for 5 days from Pokhara in March 2025 with Mount Glory Treks and trek guide Bikash. He was very knowledgeable and experienced and walked carefully and safely on the high mountain trails.

Mount Glory Treks arranged everything perfectly from the beginning to the last day of our trip. I really recommend this travel company for those who are willing to do any trek, tour, or excursion in Nepal.

Thank you, have a successful day ahead!

My girlfriend and I were very impressed with the great hospitality, professionalism, and honesty of our beloved trekking guide and porter. They helped during our whole 5-day Annapurna Base Camp trip from Pokhara. They took many photos, offered to carry extra stuff for us, provided us with snacks, ordered every meal for us, and served every meal for us. They were lovely company and greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Mount Glory Treks and MD Mr Santosh, who arranged this perfect short excursion to ABC from Pokhara. Who are looking to trek in Nepal? We highly recommend this package or any travel packages with this company. Really Appreciated!
