This Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour can be completed within just 5 hours in a single day. Meaning that you’ll wake up early in the morning and get to the Everest Base Camp in one day.

The Helicopter flight to Everest Base Camp starts from Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport Heliport, where you’ll meet your tour operator and the professional pilot. They’ll provide the necessary instructions required before the helicopter takes off.

The luxury Everest helicopter tour begins by taking you through the districts of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Kavrepalanchowk, Ramechaap, and Solukhumbu. You’ll be blessed with the views of lush green forests and nearby rivers, the highlight being the Dudh Koshi River once you reach the Everest region.

Soon enough, you’ll land at the most dangerous airport in the world in Lukla, which is Tenzing-Hillary Airport. Here, you’ll meet Sherpa people and get to interact and learn about their culture and lifestyle.

After the Kathmandu to Lukla helicopter flight, the Everest Base Camp Heli Tour flies you over the highest peaks in the world. These include Mount Everest/Sagarmatha (8,848.86 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Nuptse (7,861 m), Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Makalu (8,481 m), Cho Oyu (8,188 m), and Pumori (7,161 m).

We promise you that this is the best price you’re getting in Nepal. Not because the price is in the mid-range. It’s because of the quality of service you’ll be receiving when you come to Nepal.

Itinerary

Timed Itinerary for Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

Unlike other Everest trekking packages provided by Mount Glory, this luxury helicopter tour can be completed within just one day. This means that even if your Nepal tour is short, we can help you explore the Khumbu region in just a few of your morning hours.

With that, you don’t have to worry about walking long distances, sleeping in high-altitude regions, or experiencing unpredictable weather. This trip shall be held in the early morning and you’ll return to Kathmandu by 10:30 to 11:00 AM and continue with your Kathmandu tour.

To understand fully about the helicopter flights with landings at Everest Base Camp, read about the detailed timed itinerary provided below.

05:30: Drop-off at Kathmandu Airport Heliport

You have to wake up early on the day you’re going for the helicopter tour to Everest Base Camp. The main factor is the unpredictable weather in the Everest region.

Since Mount Glory wants you to get the best views of Mt. Everest, we do not want you to be late from your side. For that reason, try to wake up as early as possible and make sure all the documents are pre-arranged.

Our representatives will collect you from the hotel you’re staying at nd we’ll drive straight to the Tribhuvan International Airport Heliport. Previously, we had to go to Bhaktapur, but since it’s in the capital city now, we’ll be at least 15 to 20 minutes quicker with less traffic.

We won’t have much time. So, kindly don’t expect breakfast this early morning. In case you’re hungry, you may carry light snacks with you, which you can have on the way or even before the drive to the helipad.

06:00: Check-in & Preparation For Mount Everest Helicopter Tour

Half an hour is more than enough for us to reach the TIA Heliport from Thamel. Once you’re here, you’ll have to do the basic checks.

These include your body weight check, passport checks by the officials, and security checks in order for a boarding pass. Very much similar to flying on an airplane.

And if this is the first time you’re riding on a helicopter, just get ready to get the majestic views of the Himalayas. Getting the views of Mt. Everest and the surrounding region is just going to show how beautiful Nepal truly is.

Remember these words from Mount Glory while you’re waiting in the hall. You can even question the professionals there for any other necessary preparation you need to do before the flight.

Don’t worry! We have included everything you should know about the guidelines later in this article. So, keep reading until the end.

Once the airline announces your flight, all you have to do is get up and get into the luxury helicopter that Mount Glory had arranged for you. You won’t be alone for sure. We’ll make sure to introduce you to other guests who are as excited as you will be.

06:45: Stop For Refuel at Lukla Airport

Expect the luxury helicopter flight to take off by 6:15 to 6:20 AM. In the morning, the weather is usually clear, we don’t experience flight delays.

By 6:45 to 6:50, you’ll already be enjoying some of the best scenes of Nepal. And that too from such a height. Honestly, the views are so much different from the airplanes. You’ll feel this as soon as the helicopter takes off.

Starting from the hilly regions of Nepal, you’d love the views of the Mahabharat and Chure ranges. Kathmandu shall look so tiny and the dense forest and river scenery make it even more worth it.

Slowly and steadily, we ascend towards the great Himalayas. The helicopter shall pass through some dangerous sections too, making it an adventure of your lifetime.

A total of 30 to 40-minute flight shall take you to the most dangerous airport in the world, Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla. It’s often regarded as the “gateway to Everest”. After your landing, you’ll know exactly why it’s called that.

By now, you’ll already have amazing glimpses of the tallest mountains in the world. But for safety and emergency regions, we will drop here so that the helicopter gets refueled. We can’t take any risks, can we?

While the helicopter is being refueled, don’t hesitate to get out for fresh air. You can even meet some local sherpas there and socialize with them. Question them as much as you want to learn about the Nepalese people of this region (their lifestyle and culture!).

07:15: Kala Patthar & Everest Base Camp Flyover

Once the refueling is done, we’re all set to head towards the most-awaited Everest Base Camp (5,365 m). Note that we won’t drop off here as it’s prohibited. Keep in mind that it might disturb the mountaineers. We must respect that.

Nonetheless, the views from the above shall look fantastic. Mount Glory promises you that this shall be one of the best scenes you’ll see in your life. After all, you’re in the highest part of the world, which is a thing to be proud of.

Well, the Everest Base Camp isn’t exactly the highlight of this helicopter package. The pilot shall even take you to the highest viewpoint of Everest (which is the same even for trekkers).

We’re talking about the very famous Kala Patthar at an altitude of 5,644 m.

Again, we won’t be landing but it will only be a flyover. Click as many pictures and videos as you want throughout your luxury EBC helicopter tour.

The sun will already have risen by this point and the golden views of Mount Everest (8,848 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Cho Oyu (8,201 m), Nuptse (7,861 m), Pumori (7,161 m), and Ama Dablam (6,812 m).

Once the overfly tour in Kala Patthar is almost at the end, you’ll return with some magnificent views of the Dudh Koshi River, dense rhododendron and pine forest, Namche Bazar, Khumjung, and Phortse. You’ll even get a glimpse of trekkers and climbers on the trekking route.

If you want to try getting to the Everest Base Camp and Kala Pathhar by trek, don’t forget to check Mount Glory’s 14-day package here.

08:00: Fly Over Syangboche Hill & Land at Everest View Hotel

Note that the trip is not over yet. Obviously, you’d want to land and spend some amazing time on the grounds of the Khumbu region, don’t you?

For that reason, Mount Glory has prepared something special. You’ll be landing in Syangboche Hill where the highest hotel in the world, Everest View Hotel is located at an elevation of 3,880 m.

Here, we’ll be stopping for a wonderful breakfast with the view of Mt. Everest right in front of your eyes. Probably, it’s going to be the best and most memorable breakfast of your life. We’d be surprised if you say it’s not because we’ve seen those expressions in almost all of our guests’ eyes.

You can have your favorite breakfast item or even stick with the typical Nepalese food. Mount Glory suggests the latter as this would be the best time to try the unique Tibetan food. This way, you get to immerse yourself more in the Himalayan culture.

08:50: Fly Back to Lukla for Refueling

After that fantastic breakfast in the heart of the Khumbu region, it’s time to wave bye to the highest mountain in the world. You’d be heading to the heli once again and with more views of the Sagarmatha National Park and crossing Namche Bazaar, the pilot will take you back to the Lukla Airport.

Yet again, we’d stop here for refueling. So, you’ll have a little more time (about 15 minutes) to get off the helicopter and explore the region once again.

Don’t forget to communicate with the locals here to learn more about Mt. Everest. The more you socialize, the better, as you might be lucky enough to hear lucky stories there.
10:00 Return to Kathmandu

Once the refueling is done, the crew shall inform you and then you can have one final look at the Everest before heading back to the helicopter.

You’d be returning the same route over the Solukhumbu district and slowly fly over Ramechaap, Kavre, Bhaktapur, and surrounding districts before reaching the capital city of Kathmandu.

Once you land on the helipad, our representatives will make sure you reach your hotel safely. And not to forget that our entire team shall be waiting for you to hear your experience from the Everest region.

This way, your luxury helicopter EBC tour package is over. We might stop for lunch if you wish to in Kathmandu itself. But that completely depends upon you.

    Useful Information

Best Time to Do Helicopter Tour to Everest Base Camp

The ultimate best time to complete this Luxury Everest Tour is during the spring (March through May) and Autumn (September through November) seasons. Even early December and late February are optimal.

There’s a solid reason why we have picked these seasons as absolute favorites for our guests. We have considered three main factors—visibility/views, crowd, and weather/temperature. Let’s understand them using the following table:

    SeasonVisibility/ViewsCrowdWeather/Temperature
March to May (Spring)Clear blue sky with panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks, get to see the lush rhododendron forests during flyoverModerate to HighModerate during daytime and cold during the early morning
September to November (Autumn)Excellent (best time for mountain views)Moderate to HighMild during daytime and slightly cold during the early morning
December to February (Winter)Good during early morning, but skies get foggy very quickly (can disrupt your flight too)Low to ModerateVery cold (temp. Can go below zero degrees) and unpredictable weather
June to August (Summer/Monsoon)Poor visibility with no proper views of the HimalayasLowContinuous heavy rainfall and cloud cover, high chances of flight disruption, temperature is moderate though

After going through the table above, you’ve probably got a clear figure of when is the best time to do the Everest Base Camp with Helicopter landing Tour.

Imagine not being able to witness the beauty of Everest and the surrounding peaks just because you chose the wrong season. Mount Glory certainly doesn’t want that. So, kindly think before you choose your time.

Permits Required for Helicopter Ride to Everest

Mount Glory shall help you get the permits for this EBC Heli tour. This means that you don’t have to hassle about this part in any way. It’s not included in our package! We will provide the details before going to Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour.

However, we still want you to understand why permits are important in the Everest region of Nepal. There are basically two permits required, and the cost of these varies depending on your nationality.

It’s not us who make it compulsory, but it’s by the Government of Nepal. Without permits, you won’t be able to enter the region. So, to make sure your experiences don’t get ruined by such a simple thing, Mount Glory wants you to have at least a basic idea of these permits.

Since Mt. Everest lies in the Sagarmatha National Park (which is a UNESCO World Heritage site), there are thousands of tourists visiting here every month. To manage the crowd flow, protect the natural environment, and ensure the visitors’ safety, these permits have been introduced for quite a long time now.

We just want to know that you’re a valid person who isn’t going to do any harm when getting to these remote parts of Nepal. It’s like an identity card of an organization that permits you to a certain building.

Now that you’ve understood the importance of permits, let’s get into the two permits required for the Helicopter Ride to Everest Base Camp:

Packing List For Helicopter Tour to Mount Everest Base Camp

Unlike the trekkers and climbers, the helicopter tour doesn’t require carrying a heavy backpack. In fact, most of our guests do not carry a bag at all. It’s just a 5-hour ride and you’ll be back at your hotel at no time.
So, what things should you actually carry for the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour? Allow us to help you out with this packing list:

Both the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and the Khumbu Pashang Lhamu Municipality Entry Permit

    • Your passport (will be required for airport security and permit verification)
    • Travel insurance that covers a high-altitude helicopter ride
    • Personal medications (do carry anti-altitude sickness tablets)
    • Photos and Identifications (multiple preferred)
    • Copies and backups of your documents
    • Nepali cash
    • Basic first aid kit
    • Water bottle
    • Oximeter (optional)
    • Sunscream, sunglasses with UV protection, and lip balm
    • Your smartphone, cameras, earphones, power bank, and other essential electronics
    • A duffle bag would be enough
    • Sunglasses (with UV protection), Purse, and other comfort items

There’s no need to carry extra clothing. But rather focus on wearing these:

    • Headgear: Wide-brimmed hat, Sun Cap, Woolen Cap, etc.
    • Body gear: Categorize based on base-mid-outer layer (thermals, jackets, sweaters, t-shirts)
    • Handwear: Inner and outer gloves

Safety Measures & Guidelines For Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour

One of the most asked questions to us is, “Is it safe to fly to Everest Base Camp by helicopter?” The answer is. There have been millions of tourists who have done this trip before, and they have been safe.

However, we can’t predict the future, and unfortunate scenes can happen (which is still rare). We lost 6 souls back in 2023 due to a helicopter crash in the Everest region, who were there for a sightseeing tour.

But Mount Glory here isn’t trying to scare you out. That was an unfortunate accident and to make sure these things won’t repeat, the helicopter crew has been even more cautious since then.

Keeping that in mind, the Heli Tour to EBC and Kalapatthar can be considered safe. And even if there seem to be risks, the pilots shall simply call for postponing your trip. This shows how careful the committee has been.

In fact, proper safety policies have been installed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal to ensure complete tour insurance coverage for helicopter travel and weather conditions. We’ll let you know more about this once we meet in our office in Thamel, Kathmandu.

Besides accidents, this journey also poses other risks, like altitude sickness, unpredictable weather conditions, fog (mainly during off-seasons), and more.

After properly communicating with the locals, pilots, and other professionals who are directly involved in managing the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour, we have been able to prepare

some safety measures that you as a passenger should take.

Carefully go through this guideline prepared by Mount Glory to be super duper safe throughout the EBC Heli Tour:

    • Make sure to choose a registered and trusted travel agency, like Mount Glory, as your travel partner.
    • If you have a persistent health problem, kindly inform your tour operator or us before even coming to Nepal. We’ll help you with the necessary requirements.
    • Sometimes, you might get sick after coming to Nepal. In that case, Mount Glory doesn’t recommend flying at high altitudes. We shall help you postpone your trip for sure.
    • Don’t forget to carry your ID, permits, and passport. They should be in your personal bag at all times.
    • Note that a maximum of five people will be on the helicopter and the total baggage limit shall be 500 kgs. Meaning, no more than 80 to 100 kgs for one person.
    • Once you’re seated in the helicopter, always follow the instructions provided by the pilot.
    • Be mindful of what you’re wearing. Re-read the packing list that we offered earlier to learn more.
    • Even if you’re not trekking, it doesn’t mean you don’t take care of your health. Make sure to be hydrated at all times and don’t forget your water bottle. Or you also have the option to buy them in the Everest region when the helicopter lands in Lukla and in the Everest View Hotel.
    • Since you’ll be flying over the high-altitude region, the risk of altitude sickness is still there. So, keep track of your oxygen levels and watch for possible signs.
    • Don’t hesitate to help another passenger if they are showing signs of altitude sickness too. Let’s be cooperative at all times when we’re going to such a high-altitude and remote region of Nepal, where health facilities are also less.
    • After landing in the Khumbu region, kindly don’t litter. There are local dustbins around, use them if required.
    • Tipping service has been quite the thing here in Nepal. So, don’t hesitate to give away some bucks to your tour operator or the other crew members.
    • Once your EBC Heli tour ends, don’t forget to check if you’ve left your personal belongings in the helicopter. Fetching it later might be impossible.
    • Be respectful to the people in the Everest region. Try to greet everyone you meet with Namaste.
