When is the Best Time for the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal?
Since the Himalayan adventure is different from ordinary hiking, the seasons have a big influence. In a similar vein, the challenging Thorong La Pass Trek should be finished as soon as possible to minimise risks and unfavourable consequences.
Autumn (September to November)
The Annapurna Circuit, which offers clear skies, consistent weather, and breathtaking mountain views, is most popular in the autumn, between September and November.
Spring (March to May)
The spring season, which lasts from March to May, is ideal for this trek, with blooming rhododendrons, moderate temperatures, and clear views of snow-capped peaks.
Winter (December to February)
In contrast, the winter season, which lasts from December to February, is colder and more difficult, especially at higher elevations covered in snow, but there are fewer people. As a result, trekkers who enjoy challenges and solitude and have previous experience with winter hiking can complete this.
Monsoon (June to Early September)
The monsoon season, which lasts from June to early September, is typically not recommended due to the heavy rainfall, slick roads, and possibility of landslides.
Note: We highly recommend Autumn(September to November) and Spring(March to May). If you are planning except for those months, you can contact our team for more information about trekking in Nepal for the Annapurna Circuit.
Major Attractions of the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal
The Annapurna Circuit Trek is well-known for its remarkable topography, cultural diversity, high mountain passes, hallowed temples, and striking scenery, which ranges from verdant forests to desolate Mustang deserts. The following are the main draws of the Annapurna trek:
Thorong La Pass (5,416 m)
One of the world's highest and most famous trekking passes, Thorong La Pass (5,416 m) is the epitome of a Himalayan adventure. You are treated to expansive views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and the Mustang region during the Thorong La Pass Trek.
As the ACT's highest point, this is the most difficult and fulfilling part of the whole trip.
Manang Valley
Manang, a high-altitude Himalayan valley surrounded by glaciers, turquoise lakes, and striking rock formations, has a distinctive culture influenced by Tibet. Additionally, with side hikes to Ice Lake and Gangapurna Lake, it's the ideal place to acclimatise.
Muktinath Temple
The Muktinath Temple, a revered pilgrimage site for both Buddhists and Hindus, is one of the main highlights of the entire journey. Muktinath is renowned for its natural eternal flame and 108 water spouts.
After traversing the difficult Thorong La pass, this location offers a rich spiritual experience.
Kali Gandaki Gorge
Known as one of the world's deepest gorges, the Kali Gandaki Gorge was created between enormous peaks like Annapurna and Dhaulagiri.
The gorge offers windy valley trails and striking geological landscapes that can be seen on the Annapurna Circuit Route.
Lower Mustang & Jomsom Region
Tibetan plateau landscapes serve as inspiration for the desert-like Himalayan scenery found in the lower Mustang and Jomsom region during the trek. This area is well-known for its apple orchards, traditional stone villages, and Thakali culture.
The charming village of Marpha is well-known for its apple brandy and features whitewashed architecture.
Tatopani Natural Hot Springs
Natural hot pools at Tatopani, a significant stop on the Annapurna Circuit Trek, are ideal for unwinding after strenuous trekking days. Relax and ease your aching muscles in the serene location by the river.
Ghorepani Poon Hill Viewpoint 3210m
You can enjoy the captivating panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges from Poon Hill, which is considered one of Nepal's best sunrise viewpoints. Spend some time taking pictures of the mountains and take in the stunning golden hour at this incredible location.
Diverse Landscapes
The varied landscapes you see along the way are one of the main draws of this 12-day Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal.
It is extremely uncommon for a single trek to move from subtropical forests to alpine meadows and arid deserts. The trail offers a comprehensive view of the Himalayan landscape, including glacial rivers, rhododendron forests, and rich biodiversity.
Unique Mountain Cultures
Experience the unique mountain culture of the Annapurna region, which is influenced by communities that are Gurung, Thakali, Buddhist, and Tibetan. Discover the history of traditional villages, monasteries, mani walls, and prayer flags while experiencing genuine cultural immersion through the hospitality of the teahouse.
Flora and Fauna
In addition to its abundance of flora and fauna, Annapurna offers trekkers the opportunity to see creatures like yaks, blue sheep, Himalayan thar, and numerous bird species. The stunning rhododendron blooms in the springtime give the trail a crimson hue. Observe the distinctive alpine ecosystems and high-altitude vegetation.
The Lakeside City of Pokhara
Pokhara, the finish line of the Annapurna round trek and renowned for its tranquil Phewa Lake, thrilling nightlife and adventure activities, is a major highlight of this trip.
Pokhara is a great place to relax both before and after the hike.

Your body will require wholesome, high-carbohydrate meals when engaging in physically taxing activities like hiking and travelling at high altitudes like the Annapurna Round Trek. Our 12-day itinerary for the Annapurna circuit trip includes three wholesome meals per day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) to meet your needs.

Accommodation During Annapurna Round Trek in Nepal
This Annapurna Round Trek itinerary takes you to the isolated, high Himalayan region of Nepal. This package includes accommodation in cosy, basic-amenity teahouses and lodges in the Annapurna region.
Here are things you need to know about accommodation during your Annapurna Circuit trek:
- Type of lodges: Simple rooms with wooden beds, mattresses, pillows, and blankets are provided by family-run lodges and traditional teahouses.
- Room layout: Mostly twin-sharing, with triple-sharing available in a few places. During peak season, single rooms in high altitudes may be unavailable.
- Heating: Bedrooms at higher elevations are not heated, but dining halls frequently have a central stove (bukhari) for warmth.
- Bathroom type: Shared squat or Western-style restrooms are typically found in higher regions, while attached bathrooms are available in lower regions.
- Hot showers: Available in lower regions, but bucket-style showers may be more expensive at higher elevations.
- Charging facilities: The dining area is typically where phone and camera charging is available, but it costs per device per hour.
- Wi-Fi and network: Many villages have slow, paid Wi-Fi (EverestLink or local). After Manang, mobile network coverage deteriorates.
- Blankets and bedding: Teahouses offer blankets, but for colder areas like Yak Kharka and Thorong Phedi, hikers are advised to bring a sleeping bag (-10°C to -20°C).
- Availability: Teahouses fill up quickly during the busiest times of the year (October–November and March–April); early arrival ensures better rooms.
- High-altitude conditions: Because of the severe weather and restricted supply routes, higher villages like Thorong Phedi and Yak Kharka have incredibly simple rooms.
How to get ready for a trek to the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal?
Preparation is crucial because there are many factors to take into account before starting the twelve-day trek in the high-altitude Himalayas of the Annapurna region. Everything needs to be verified twice, including equipment, permits, endurance, and physical fitness.
Prior to travelling to the Annapurna Circuit, the following preparations are suggested:
- To increase your endurance for the demanding hike, start building your fitness at least a month or six weeks in advance with cardio (cycling, running), leg strength training and long walks.
- To become accustomed to carrying weight and walking on uneven terrain, try hiking with a rucksack.
- To ensure you know exactly what to expect, do extensive research on the route, altitude profile, weather, and daily walking hours. For more specific information, get in touch with us.
- Pack sensibly by adhering to the previously mentioned packing list for the Annapurna circuit trek.
- To prevent blisters during long walking days, which can be problematic, break in your trekking boots in advance by using them for walks and hikes.
- Essential medications, ORS, water purification tablets, altitude sickness medications, and personal first aid supplies are items you should not overlook.
- In the isolated mountain villages of Nepal, you must be mentally prepared as well as physically for long walking days, steep climbs, frigid temperatures, and basic amenities.
- Since there are no ATMs on high-altitude trekking routes, bring enough cash for emergencies, food, and amenities.
How to prevent altitude sickness when hiking the Annapurna Circuit, Nepal
People who are not sufficiently acclimated to a high altitude may experience acute mountain sickness, also known as altitude sickness.
Symptoms of altitude sickness include:
- Headache
- Dizziness/light-headedness
- Nausea or loss of appetite
- Fatigue or difficulty sleeping
- Shortness of breath while resting
Trekking at high elevations, like the Thorong La Pass in the Annapurna region, greatly increases the risk of altitude sickness.
For your 12 Days Annapurna Trek, our experienced trekking guides and trip planners have offered the following advice to lower the risk of altitude sickness.
- In order to help you refuel, the fifth day of the schedule includes a day for acclimatisation at Manang.
- It is advised to hike to higher altitudes and sleep at lower elevations.
- Drink three to four litres of water every day and stay away from alcohol and caffeine to stay hydrated.
- To strengthen the body and immune system, eat foods high in carbohydrates, such as rice, noodles, and dal bhat.
- You should always take your time and not rush, even if you feel strong at the start of your journey.
- Consult your doctor about acetazolamide (Diamox) to avoid the illness.
- You should not ignore symptoms like headaches, nausea, and dizziness; if they get worse, go downstairs or take a nap.
- When it's cold outside, stay warm, avoid overdoing it, and get enough sleep.
- Observe your guides and seek assistance if you encounter any difficulties.
Is the Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal Suitable for Beginners?
In Nepal's high-altitude Himalayas, the Annapurna Circuit Trek is a strenuous trek that can be completed by novices with sufficient preparation. The world's highest pass, Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), is no joke and may be challenging for novices.
Basic fitness is required for the Annapurna round tour, and a few weeks prior to the journey, you should walk 10 to 15 kilometres every day. Acclimatisation days and adequate sleep are also essential.
The 12-day Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal is not recommended for complete beginners with no prior training; always read your body and follow your guide's instructions.
Visa for Nepal
Foreign tourists visiting Nepal for a trek, tour, or other adventure must have a tourist visa. However, obtaining a tourist visa in Nepal is simpler than in other nations.
Most foreign visitors can apply for a visa at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, and you can speed up the process by filling out the online application.
Before you can apply for a visa upon arrival, you must complete the application and have a passport that is valid for at least six months.
The following are the fees to obtain a Nepali visa:
- 15‑day visa: US $30
- 30‑day visa: US $50
- 90‑day visa: US $125
Permits Required for Annapurna Trek in Nepal
Entering the Annapurna region requires two permits. One is the Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) permit, which monitors the safety and whereabouts of trekkers in Nepal.
The second is the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP), which is required to enter the Annapurna Conservation Area within the Annapurna Area.
- The cost of a Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) permit is NPR 2000 per person.
- The Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) costs INR 3000 per person.
Note: We arrange the necessary permits for your trip, and our package covers all permit fees.
Travel Insurance for Trekking in Nepal
Prior to starting your Annapurna Circuit Trek with us, it is recommended that you have the appropriate travel insurance. Because the route passes through Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), you need to have travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking up to at least 5,500 m.
Additionally, you should buy high-altitude travel insurance from a reputable travel agency and ensure that it covers medical coverage, helicopter evacuation, emergency situations, and trip cancellation.
The majority of agencies may decline to guide you to Nepal's difficult Annapurna region if you do not have the necessary insurance, and rescue services may charge exorbitant fees. Since insurance must be purchased separately prior to arrival, it is typically not included in the trek package.
Guides & Porters Service
The High Altitude Annapurna Circuit requires an experienced trekking guide. Mount Glory Treks provides one experienced guide for a group of eight. If there are more than eight people in your group, we will provide an additional assistant guide to make your trip easier.
Porters are crucial to your mountain journey because they are in charge of transporting your heavy bags and luggage. Since trekking in Nepal's challenging Annapurna region is nearly impossible without porters, we include them in our package. In addition, a porter is available to transport up to 25 kg of luggage for two hikers.
Note: Our packages include transportation, lodging, food, and travel insurance for porters and guides.
Things You Should Know before going Annapurna Trek in Nepal
You should be aware of some of the practical aspects of daily services on the trail before starting your Annapurna Circuit Hike. Additionally, these extras should be factored into your overall trekking budget, as they are not included in our 12-day trekking package.
Drinking Water
Boiled drinking water is available at tea houses and lodges along the circuit, particularly after Chame. In the Manang, Thorong Phedi, and Thorong La regions, the cost of drinking water ranges from NPR 100 to NPR 300 per litre and rises with altitude.
In lower regions, bottled water costs between NPR 80 and NPR 200, but in high-altitude areas, it may cost as much as NPR 300–400. To cut costs and plastic waste, we recommend using filtration bottles, Steripens, or water purification tablets.
Hot Showers
Hot bucket showers or gas/solar-heated showers are available in the majority of the journey's teahouses. Hot showers can cost NPR 200–300 in Chame and Pisang, NPR 200–500 in the vicinity of Manang and Yak Kharka, and NPR 500–700 in high-altitude locations like Thorong Phedi and Muktinath.
Additionally, it is crucial to understand that the availability of hot showers diminishes with altitude.
Charging Electronics
Electricity is accessible throughout the Annapurna Circuit, with solar power being more prevalent at higher elevations. The location and devices you own determine the charging fees.
In lower regions, it typically starts at NPR 150–300, while in high-altitude regions like Yak Kharka and Thorong Phedi, it starts at NPR 300–600. Carrying power banks is the best option.
Wi-Fi & Mobile Network
Similar to other amenities, wifi is available in Muktinath/Jomsom and the majority of the teahouses from Chame to Manang. The cost of the lodge's Wi-Fi is around NPR 200-500 per login and depends on altitude and speed.
In a similar vein, the NTC and Ncell networks perform admirably until Pisang/Manang, after which they deteriorate near Yak Kharka and Thorong Phedi. Additionally, the network reconnects in Jomsom and Muktinath after you cross the high pass.
ATM Access
One thing you should be aware of is that the last trustworthy ATMs are located in Kathmandu, Besisahar and Pokhara, and there are none after Besisahar. There are some ATMs in Manang, but they are frequently broken or unreliable.
Therefore, we advise you to bring enough cash for the entire journey, which should be between NPR 30,000 and NPR 40,000 for small expenses like food, showers, charging, wifi, and tips.
Money Exchange
The only places with money exchange services are Pokhara and Kathmandu. Additionally, because of its slightly wider spread, the exchange rates in Kathmandu are typically better than those in Pokhara.
There is no currency exchange after the trek begins, and you should always exchange enough Nepali rupees for the journey because carrying foreign currency can be difficult, and many places won't accept it.
Airport Pickup and Drop-Off Service
When you arrive in Nepal, we provide airport pickup and drop-off services to your preferred hotel. After that, you will be dropped off at the airport for your flight back home from your hotel in Kathmandu after completing the trek.
As a kind gesture, we provide airport pick-up and drop-off services so you never have to travel alone and can begin and finish your trip feeling at ease and well cared for.
The stays in Kathmandu prior to and following the trek are not included in this 12-day Annapurna Circuit package; you are free to reserve the hotel of your choice based on your preferences and budget. If you would like us to book the hotel, please get in touch with us.
Tipping Culture in Nepal
Tipping is an excellent way to thank your guides and porters for their assistance during your Annapurna Circuit Trek via Besisahar, though it is not required. Tipping should typically be at least 10% of the trip's total cost. If you were extremely pleased with the service, you may tip more than the minimum required for the trip.
Farewell Dinner in Kathmandu
When you return to Kathmandu from Pokhara after successfully completing your Annapurna Circuit Journey, we will set up a farewell dinner for you. This will be a special chance to celebrate your success, share your experiences, and reflect on the incredible journey.
During the dinner, you will also have the opportunity to share your thoughts about our services, guides, and overall support throughout your trip. It's our way of saying "thank you" for choosing us and ensuring that your trip concludes on a unique note.
Additionally, this farewell dinner honours your journey, your perseverance, and the connections you made along the way.
Trip Completion Certificate
At our last meeting in Kathmandu before the final departure, you will receive an official trip completion certificate as a reward for your achievement.
The certificate is a noteworthy recognition of your perseverance, hard work, and success in reaching one of Nepal's most well-known Himalayan locations. Furthermore, the trip completion certificate can be framed and kept as a reminder of your travel accomplishments, or it can be proudly shared with friends and family.
What makes the Annapurna Circuit Trek different from the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
The ACT Annapurna Circuit Trek and the ABC Annapurna Base Camp Trek are both trekking routes in the Annapurna region, but they are very different from one another.
The shorter, easier, and more convenient ABC Trek places you in the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary. ACT, on the other hand, is a much longer and more difficult trek that goes around the whole Annapurna massif.
You can see Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre, and Hiunchuli up close with ABC. The highest point is 4,130, and the journey usually takes seven to ten days. Nevertheless, Thorong La (5,416 m), a high Himalayan pass that is not for everyone, is traversed by the ACT.
Furthermore, the entire Annapurna circuit, which spans a range of terrain from subtropical valleys to arid mustang-like deserts, usually takes 12 to 18 days.
In conclusion, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is ideal for beginners or hikers looking for a moderate Himalayan experience with lush forests, villages, and mountain views, while the Annapurna Circuit Trek is ideal for hikers seeking altitude challenges, cultural diversity, and drastically changing terrain.
Annapurna Circuit Trek Vs Manaslu Circuit Trek
The Annapurna Circuit Trek and the Manaslu Circuit Trek both provide unforgettable Himalayan experiences, but they cater to different types of trekkers.
While the Manaslu Circuit appeals to hikers looking for seclusion, untamed wilderness, and a more isolated experience, the Annapurna Circuit is ideal for novices and those who appreciate lively villages, varied landscapes, and well-established trails.
Both routes are fairly difficult, but Manaslu requires a little more dedication because it has fewer facilities and stricter permits. While Manaslu offers serene paths, striking valleys, and a more profound sense of discovery, Annapurna is still more accessible and well-liked.
Your decision ultimately comes down to your preference for either a tranquil, off-the-beaten-path adventure or a vibrant, cultural journey.
This table contrasts the two circuit treks across various categories:
| Category | Annapurna Circuit Trek | Manaslu Circuit Trek |
| Difficulty | Moderate, Gradual acclimatisation | Challenging, High altitude |
| Permits | ACAP + TIMS | Restricted Permits + ACAP & MCAP |
| Crowds | Popular, Busy | Quiet, Remote |
| Landscape | Desert, forests, high pass, villages | Wild valleys, Tibetan culture, untouched scenery |
| Culture | Gurung, Thakali, Manangi | Tibetan influence, monasteries |
| Accommodation | Comfortable teahouses | Basic teahouses |
| Cost | Affordable | Basic Expensive due to permits & Mandatory guide |
| Best For | Beginners and Intermediates | Experienced trekkers |
| Experience Type | Comfortable Scenic | Remote, Adventurous |
